TETFund Allocates ₦8.18 Billion to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic for Infrastructural Development

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has allocated a total of ₦8.18 billion to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State to support the institution’s infrastructural growth and academic development since 2011.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr. Sonny Echono, revealed this during the inauguration of five major TETFund-sponsored projects at the state-owned polytechnic as part of activities marking its 12th to 23rd Combined Convocation Ceremonies.
Represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at TETFund, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, Echono stated that RUGIPO has so far accessed ₦5.57 billion from the total allocation, while ₦2.61 billion remains committed to other ongoing campus projects.
He highlighted that the newly commissioned facilities—including the Faculty of Applied Sciences Building, Faculty of Engineering Technology Building, 250-seater Twin Lecture Theatre, and Academic Staff Office Complex—are collectively valued at over ₦1.7 billion.
Federal Government’s Commitment to Education
Echono emphasized that these projects reflect the Bola Tinubu administration’s dedication to improving infrastructure and academic standards in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. According to him, TETFund’s continuous intervention is aimed at enhancing the learning environment and promoting excellence across polytechnics, universities, and colleges of education nationwide.
He commended Rufus Giwa Polytechnic for its transparency and accountability in the management of intervention funds, noting that all completed projects met TETFund’s specifications despite prevailing economic challenges.
Echono further urged the school’s management to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities to guarantee their long-term use and sustainability.
RUGIPO Management Commends TETFund’s Support
Speaking at the event, the Acting Rector of RUGIPO, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, appreciated TETFund for its continuous support, describing it as a driving force behind the institution’s infrastructural transformation and academic progress.
Adegun stated that the polytechnic has maintained a strong tradition of accountability and efficient resource management, ensuring that every intervention fund is judiciously utilized to improve learning and research facilities.
He appealed to TETFund to include RUGIPO in its 2026 Special Intervention and High-Impact Projects, which would enable the institution to establish a modern health centre and construct additional student hostels to accommodate its growing population.
Strengthening Polytechnic Education in Nigeria
The TETFund allocation to RUGIPO is part of the broader effort by the Federal Government to strengthen Nigeria’s technical and vocational education sector. By investing in infrastructure, the government aims to enhance skill development, innovation, and employability among polytechnic graduates.
Education experts have consistently highlighted the importance of such funding in bridging infrastructural gaps, improving learning environments, and promoting research productivity in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
With a total of ₦8.18 billion allocated since 2011, TETFund’s continuous investment in Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo reaffirms its role in advancing educational excellence and infrastructure development across Nigeria’s higher institutions.
The newly commissioned projects not only symbolize progress but also set a new standard for accountability, sustainability, and growth in the nation’s polytechnic education system.
