FPOG Council Promises Robust Resolution to Propel the Polytechnic Forward

The Chairman 4th Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, Chief Senator George Thompson Sekibo, CON, DSSRS, JP, has promised that the governing council will address pressing institutional matters, adopting robust resolutions to propel the Polytechnic forward.
Senator Sekibo made the remark during the council’s inaugural meeting in Bonny.
Senator Sekibo reaffirmed his dedication to transforming the Polytechnic into a world-class institution, boasting state-of-the-art facilities and a committed workforce in accordance with the Polytechnic Act, hence the establishment of statutory committees including:
1. Finance and General Purpose Committee
2. Appointment and Promotion Committee
3. Junior Staff Appointment and Promotion Committee
4. Committee on Student Affairs and
5. Project Monitoring Committee.
Members were appointed to these committees to ensure effective functioning.
Acting Rector Dr. Victor Okolobah presented a comprehensive situation report, containing his stewardship over the past three months.
His achievements were met with commendations, and he was encouraged to build on his successes.
Similarly, Senator Sekibo addressed Staff in the Polytechnic Auditorium, recounting the institution’s genesis.
He acknowledged former Governor Peter Odili’s vision to establish the institute as a leading center for middle-level manpower training in the Oil and Gas as industry, which was later upgraded to a Polytechnic by former President Goodluck Jonathan.


The Chairman governing council emphasized the importance of fulfilling this vision as accountability and discipline remains our watchword.
Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, FPOG Branch, Engr. Abinye Aseminaso advised the Council to explore intergrating the Polytechnic from the Ministry of Education to the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and expedite appointments for key positions.
Other speakers including Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic, Comrade Tamunotonye Matyns-Yellowe and Director of SERVICOM, Mr. Dike Benjamin Dike, appealed to the council to collaborate with the Bonny community to actualize the Bonny-Bodo road project, enhancing accessibility for students.
Senator Sekibo assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment to completing the road project and addressed concerns regarding the potential transfer of the Polytechnic, citing challenges related to funding and leadership stability.
