Fedpoly Offa Participates In Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity Training Organised By Digital Skills Nigeria

Participants Receive Certificates of Completion
The School of Computing of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State has participated in the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity training organised by Digital Skills Nigeria in collaboration with Tech4Dev.
The online training held on Monday, March 4, 2024, featured staff from the Computer Science Department, Cybersecurity Department, Artificial Intelligence Department, Networking and Cloud Computing Department and Software Development Department respectively.
In his reaction, the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Salimonu Ishiaq Rasheed said the Federal Polytechnic Offa is evolving and following trends as technology advances. He noted that the training is an interesting engagement that further exposed the staff of School of Computing to some areas of Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity.
According to him, “knowledge and research is wide and people in academics are not relenting in making research and discoveries. Artificial Intelligence is another important area of technology that is evolving and as scholars in that field, we have to follow the trends and upgrade ourselves. We all carried out an assessment on AI fundamentals and Generative AI, and we have been issued certificates of completion in the course. It was an engaging experience for all of us who participated.”
He therefore commended the Dean, School of Computing and all Heads of Departments for utilizing the advantage of the training as an addendum to the already acquired knowledge.
The Head of Department of Cybersecurity and facilitator of the training, Dr. Sunday Asakpa said the initiative was part of the efforts of the School of Computing to partner with the industries to support the newly unbundled Computer Science programmes.
He said, “We reached out to Microsoft to support the newly unbundled HND Computer Science programmes. Microsoft in response linked the School with one of its consulting bodies, Tech4Dev. Tech4Dev in collaboration with Digital Skills Nigeria therefore came up with a two-day training on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.



“We had the first session of the training today, Monday 4th March 2024. The training was interesting. We were educated on Generative Artificial Intelligence as against the traditional Artificial Intelligence. The turn-out was impressive. The Deputy Rector, the Dean and all the Heads of Departments in the School of Computing were all present.”
“We had an exercise at the end of the training and many participants were issued certificates of good performance. It was a good experience,” he added.
While commending the management led by Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE for creating a conducive environment for staff development, he acknowledged the Deputy Rector Administration for leading by example and as a good role model with his presence at the training.
