Federal Polytechnic Ohodo Hosts Successful TETFund-Sponsored Career Skills Training for Students and Staff

Federal Polytechnic Ohodo has successfully concluded a two-day TETFund-sponsored Career Skill Advancement Training Programme designed to equip students and staff with practical entrepreneurial and workforce development skills for career growth and self-reliance.
The training programme, organized by the institution’s Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) in collaboration with Trident Technologies and Allied Services Ltd., a contractor appointed by TETFund, was held on May 7 and 8, 2026.
The initiative focused on empowering participants with modern entrepreneurial knowledge, innovation-driven ideas, and workforce readiness skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive labour market and rapidly evolving digital economy.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo, Dr. Ediri Emmanuel Agada, described the programme as a strategic opportunity for students and staff to acquire practical skills beyond conventional classroom education and academic certificates.
According to the Rector, the training was designed to expose participants to productive and innovative ideas capable of enhancing self-development, employability, and long-term career success.
He encouraged participants to remain committed, focused, and open-minded throughout the programme in order to maximize the opportunities provided by the training.
Dr. Agada also commended the Federal Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for supporting initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and technical skill development across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Dr. Obini Onuchukwu, urged students to complement their academic qualifications with practical and entrepreneurial skills that would make them self-reliant after graduation.
He emphasized the importance of creativity, discipline, innovation, and productive engagement, while advising students to reduce excessive use of social media and focus more on acquiring profitable and relevant skills that align with global workforce demands.
The Registrar further applauded the institution’s management for creating an enabling environment for impactful educational programmes and expressed confidence that the training would positively influence the future career prospects of participants.
Also speaking, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Dr. Timothy Ugwu, appreciated the Rector, the Polytechnic management, and TETFund for their support in facilitating the programme.
He encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity to familiarize themselves with emerging trends in skills acquisition and entrepreneurship in line with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) National Skills Qualification (NSQ) programmes for polytechnics and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
Dr. Ugwu, who expressed excitement over the success of the programme, reiterated that the Polytechnic remains committed to maintaining high standards in technical education and entrepreneurial development.
A representative of Trident Technologies and Allied Services Ltd., Engr. Chris Ugwu, described the workshop as highly impactful and interactive, urging participants to fully utilize the opportunities provided through the collaboration between TETFund and the Polytechnic management.
The training featured practical sessions, entrepreneurial development discussions, and interactive engagements tailored towards preparing participants for emerging opportunities within the modern workforce and business environment.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the students, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Comrade Nnadi Charles, expressed appreciation to the management of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo, TETFund, the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, and Trident Technologies and Allied Services Ltd. for organizing what he described as a timely and impactful programme.
He assured stakeholders that students would apply the entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills gained during the training towards personal growth and career advancement.
The programme concluded successfully on Friday, May 8, 2026, with participants commending the Polytechnic management and TETFund for the initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable career development among Nigerian students.
