6 Factors to Consider Before Taking a Second Wife

Taking a second wife means starting a new life, a new hope, a new family, and a fresh beginning. However, it is important for men to consider these important factors before taking a second wife to achieve a fulfilling marriage and a happy home.
1. FINANCIAL STABILITY.
Taking a second wife means more responsibilities for you, so it is important to consider your financial stability first. Do you have the money to take care of two wives and more children aside from the one you already have? If you are an average man who earns peanuts monthly, it is unwise to take a second, but if you think you are financially stable, you can go ahead.

2. CONSULTATION.
Before you take a second wife, you should consult your first wife, family, and friends and make them aware of your intention to take a second wife. Although this option isn’t compulsory, it is necessary to avoid conflicts in your home. Talk to your first wife and family members, make them aware of your desire to take a second wife, and assure them that you won’t fail in performing your roles as a father and a husband.

3. HEALTH STATUS.
Before taking a second wife, you need to go for a medical checkup and see if you are medically fit. Taking a second wife with an underlying medical condition can make things more complicated for your health. Having more than one woman means additional problems, so it is important to think deeply about whether this is truly what you want. For instance, if you are hypertensive, having more than one wife isn’t advisable unless you don’t love yourself.

4. FAMILY PLANNING.
Family planning is another factor to put into consideration when taking a second wife because having too many children can result in a financial imbalance, which may hinder you from performing your role as a father. Discuss with your spouse how many kids you want and how you will take care of them. This is why family planning is important for polygamous marriages if you want to be a responsible husband to your wives.

5. UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WANT.
Why do you want a second wife? Find the reason and see if it is valid. For instance, if your first wife hasn’t been satisfying you sexually or has been misbehaving recently, taking a second wife isn’t always the best solution. Perhaps you can address these issues directly with your spouse, and if nothing changes, you may go ahead, provided you can take care of the responsibilities that come with polygamous marriage.

6. CAN YOU LOVE THEM EQUALLY?
Polygamous families have this nonchalant attitude where nobody cares about each other, and this is another factor to consider. You must be ready to love them equally; don’t place one above the other. Ensure that you bring the children together and make them spend time with one another. If you can’t do this, you shouldn’t take a second wife.
