Everything You Need to Know About Auchi Polytechnic (AUCHI POLY)

A BRIEF HISTORY.

Auchi Polytechnic was one of the first four polytechnics in Nigeria. It was founded in 1963, first as a technical college, and later, in 1973, as a polytechnic. The extant law establishing it assigns to the institution the task of producing well-trained and highly skilled middle-level manpower for the national economy in the areas of Engineering Technology, Science, Environmental Studies, Management Studies, and Art & Design. Auchi Polytechnic is one of the leading polytechnics in the country, located in one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan towns in Nigeria.

The Polytechnic Community.

The polytechnic is located in Auchi local government area of Edo state. The businesses common in the town are commercial businesses like buying and selling; farming; cattle rearing; POS; boutiques; eateries; etc. If you are a student and thinking about which type of business to venture into in the Auchi polytechnic community, you can try any of these businesses. Other common businesses in the polytechnic are POS (point of sale), photocopying, passport photography, cyber cafes, etc.

AUCHI POLYTECHNIC PROGRAMMES.

The Federal Polytechnic of Auchi runs 3 programmes; Morning, Evening and Degree programmes.

1. MORNING PROGRAMME: This is a full-time programme that requires Jamb admission. Lectures for this programme start at 8 a.m. in the morning and end at 4 p.m. in the evening. The duration of the morning programme is two(2) years. Morning programmes are also called full-time programmes. The challenge of this program is that it is stressful. Well, is there a school that is not stressful? As time goes on, you will adapt to the school and its environment and the programme.

2. EVENING PROGRAMME: This is a direct entry programme for students who wish to further their education with a deficiency in JAMB. That is, you don’t need to pass JAMB to be offered admission as what you need most is your O’level result. Auchi poly Evening Programme is also known as SES or SPATS, meaning school of evening studies or school of part-time students/Studies, whichever that suits you. The duration of this programme is two(2) years.

3. DEGREE PROGRAMMES: This is a BSC program for students who want to continue their education at the university level. Auchi polytechnic degree programmes are affiliated with Nnamdi Azikiwe University. This means, after your ND programme and you want to cross to university, you can easily do that through Auchi Polytechnic Affiliation programmes. The duration of this programme is 4 years, depending on your course and mode of admission.

AUCHI POLYTECHNIC CAMPUSES.

Auchi Polytechnic has three (3) campuses: the main campus on Benin-Okene road, Campus Two (2) across from Fannet eatery and pump station, and Campus Three(3) across from Iyekeh girl’s school. The most popular departments in the polytechnic are Business Administration, Science Laboratory Technology, Mass Communication, and Public Administration, among others. Some of the popular buildings in the polytechnic are the admin block, Aristotle, pavilion etc.

Academic and examination results are being released online. This means that only you can see your academic performance, unlike other schools that release results on notice boards for everyone to see. Your results will be released online on the school portal and only you will have access to see your performance.

AUCHI POLY LECTURERS.

Most of the polytechnic lecturers are very strict with students, while a few of them are jovial. The lecturers don’t joke with attendance. So, if you want to attend Auchi Polytechnic, you must be consistent in your attendance. Textbooks and handouts In Auchi, poly ranges from #500 and above.

ADMISSION TO AUCHI POLYTECHNIC.

Auchi polytechnic Admission is easy. If you meet the screening requirements, you will be offered admission.

(A) NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND): To gain admission to the National Diploma Programme, you must have scored at least 120 in your UTME and obtained a minimum of 5 credit passes either in WAEC, NECO, GCE or NABTEB. After you have obtained the form online and submitted your application, you will be invited to come for a CBT screening. During this process, you are required to come along with all your credentials or documents, and after this, you should be expecting your name on the admission list. In the absence of a No UTME result, you can apply for an evening programme which is direct entry.

(B) HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND): Candidates are required to have obtained a minimum of a lower credit at the National Diploma (ND) level, while candidates with a pass may be considered for admission with 2 years of industrial training. In addition, the candidate must possess at least 5 credits in relevant subjects at O’level. English language and mathematics are compulsory subjects. After obtaining the form, you will be invited for CBT screening, and thereafter you should expect your name on the admission list.

DRESSING CODE:

There is no specific dressing code for all students, but some departments have a dress code. However, the polytechnic does not tolerate indecent dressing. Students are advised to dress in a decent manner as failure to adhere to the school rules on dressing might attract sanction.

AUCHI POLY SCHOOL FEES.

Auchi Poly is one of the cheapest and most affordable schools in Nigeria. School of Evening Studies (SES) students’ school fees range from #37,000 to #62,000 depending on your faculty and department. Students in the school of science and engineering pay more than students in other faculties. The acceptance fee for ND is #20,000 while that for HND is #30,000 as at the present academic session. Morning/full-time students pay between #35,000 and #45,000 per session during the current academic session.

ACCOMMODATION.

If you are a student that rents an apartment, maybe you do not want to stay in the school hostels. That means you will have to get a room off-campus or rent an apartment. Single rooms range from 40k to 50k in Auchi depending on your location. Self-containers range from 150K to 250K depending on your budget.

Accommodations that are close to the polytechnic campuses are more expensive than those that are far away. Some of the popular streets in Auchi that students dominate the most are Sabo Road, 1st and 2nd Power Line, George Innih, etc. However, if you don’t have up to 40k to get a single room, you can apply for hostel accommodation inside the school and this costs about 30k per session.
