NAPS MEETS WITH MINISTER OF EDUCATION TO ADDRESS DICHOTOMY BETWEEN HND/Bsc
In a significant step towards addressing the longstanding issue of dichotomy between Bachelor’s of Science and Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications in Nigeria, the leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), ably led by National President Comrade Ridwan Opeyemi and the Senate President, Comrade Adeniji Temitope convened a crucial meeting with the Honorable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman.
The meeting, attended by the Permanent Secretary and Director of Polytechnics, as well as other key members of the Ministry of Education and some NAPS leadership. The meeting was focused on advocating for the abolishment of the discriminatory practices against HND holders in the country.
Center of the discussion was the urgent need for the assent of the bill passed to eliminate the existing disparity between Bsc and HND qualifications. The NAPS leadership, recognizing the importance of political support, also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his endorsement of the bill.
In a promising development, the Minister of Education responded positively to the concerns raised by NAPS representatives. The Minister reassured the delegations of NAPS towards his support for the abolishment of the dichotomy, and this signaling a step forward in achieving equality and recognition for HND holders in the Nigerian educational landscape.
The outcome of this meeting marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to address the disparities that have long hindered the advancement and recognition of polytechnic education in Nigeria. With the commitment of both the Ministry of Education and the support of the Nigeria Government, there is renewed optimism for a more inclusive and equitable educational system that values the contributions of all qualified individuals, regardless of their educational background.
Special Thanks to SSA to President on Students Engagement Hon. Asefon Sunday Dayo and other stakeholders for their unrelented efforts and support.
