According to Wikipedia, “Engineering” is the use of scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items, including bridges, tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings.

Engineering is a faculty or school in the university, polytechnic, or college system of education that comprises different departments.

Engineering courses or departments in the school of engineering are mostly studied by students who are good in physics and mathematics. Below are some fun facts you need to know about engineering students.

1. THEY ARE THE BEST.

Engineering students are the best all over the world, and the students are second to none. Before any department is mentioned, engineering will surely come first. This is actually a fun fact you should know about engineering students.

2. ENGINEERING STUDENTS ARE PRODUCTIVE AND CREATIVE.

Engineering students are very creative and productive. They love to invent new things that solve daily problems through the use of technology. Engineering students are generally referred to as “problem solvers” because they are very useful in every aspect of life. This may be connected to the nature of the department. I remember during my stay on campus, it was the Engineering Department that fixed the school streetlight, and also any power faults in the school usually got fixed by engineering students.

In our hostel back then at school, we usually enjoyed free light without paying Kobo, and the brains behind it were engineering students. NEPA disconnects our lights, they were the ones who fixed it. Those guys are geniuses; I’m always surprised at how well civil engineering students can fix power problems. So, the fact is, engineering students are creative and productive.

3. FINANCIAL BUOYANT.

Engineering students don’t usually go broke on campus because of their skills, as they can easily render some home services like installation, carry out maintenance and repairs, and even work with construction or firm companies as part-time jobs. The fact is, even if an engineering student is broke, it is temporary and not permanent.

4. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

Engineering is not like other courses where you have to beg for a job. There are always employment opportunities for you after school, and by the way, they can decide to set up their own firm, thus making engineering students bosses and independent. “Engineering ain’t nobody’s mate.” Respect your boss.

5. SERIOUSNESS AND HARDWORKING.

Engineering students are serious students who are hardworking. It is very rare to find a lazy student in any engineering department. The students are smart and diligent in their work. They hardly have time to play or flex because all their life on campus depends more on practicality, which drains their time.

6. STINGINESS.

Engineering students are very stingy (not all of them). They hardly give, or should I say they don’t know how to give, and this is why lots of them are served breakfast in relationships. They are also broke guys because they don’t usually have money, practicals always take their money. Maybe this is the reason they are broke; I don’t know. Engineering students can trek from Kano to Abuja.

7. ENGINEERING STUDENTS ARE BRILLIANT.

Although there are brilliant students in other fields and disciplines, generally, engineering students are geniuses. I have never seen a weak student graduate in any engineering discipline before. Those guys are second to none when it comes to academics. Even students from other departments come to engineering for tutorials.

8. FEWER PEOPLE IN POPULATION.

Engineering students are always a small population, and the departments mostly have few or no females. Many students don’t like the academic stress and frustration that come with engineering, so they prefer other courses to engineering. Out of every 100 engineering students, you will hardly get 20 females among them.

9. ENGINEERING STUDENTS HARDLY WIN ELECTION.

Engineering students don’t usually win student union elections, and this is due to their small population. If any candidate from engineering wins the SU election, this may be by luck or by merging with another discipline or faculty.

10. THEY LOVE ARGUMENT.

Don’t even bother to engage them in an argument; they will always win. It’s just as if argument is part of their syllabus, but this is just a fun fact about them. They can argue for Africa.

11. POOR IN ENGLISH.

Engineering students may be intelligent and brilliant, but commonly their English is poor. They commit blunders a lot. Although not all of them, most of them speak poor English. They will be like, “We are problem solvers, not newscasters.” This is just a fun fact about them.

12. THEY DRESS TATTERED.

Engineering students don’t know how to dress neatly. In fact, they mostly dress tattered, and the funniest thing is when you ask them why. They use practicals to cover their faces. An example is an agricultural engineering or mechanical engineering student; they don’t always look neat, which is why ladies run from them.

13 THEY LIKE WOMEN TOO MUCH.

Despite the fact that they don’t dress well or speak good English, engineering students always date the most beautiful girls on campus. I don’t know how they manage to do this. They like women too much, so they roam every other faculty looking for someone to woo because they don’t have any females in theirs. The truth is most girls would prefer to date engineering students. The fun fact here is that, despite the fact that they love women a lot, they don’t joke with their studies.

14. ENGINEERING STUDENTS SEE OTHER COURSES AS EASY.

According to the students, any course apart from engineering is easy, and this is just a fun fact about them. I have witnessed many cases where the students’ solved problems in other courses.

15. THEY CAN FINISH THE SYLLABUS IN A DAY.

Engineering students can finish their syllabus in a day and prepare for examinations in a day. You should not compare yourself with them because their brains work differently. They assimilate and digest the content of their courses rapidly.

16. THEY’RE BAD COOKS.

Engineering students are the worst cooks on earth. Their best food is beans and garri as that’s the food they know how to cook best. Besides, engineering students don’t have time, so they are not perfect with cooking foods.
