Academic Resistance In Uromi Polytechnic

ACADEMIC RENAISSANCE IN THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT, UROMI, EDO STATE
The 1st innovation workshop of NICTM tagged: From Research to Product, was nothing short of a groundbreaking intellectual exercise of profound search into the deep hidden treasures of knowledge and information through experimentation, investigation, exploration, verification, testing,  empirical analysis and validation of existing systems and phenomena.
The workshop presents academics of no mean repute, prolific researchers and writers of inestimable value as speakers who x-rayed and diagnosed various areas of human endeavours with practical solutions to research problems in Nigeria and advancement in existing knowledge as contribution to scholarship.
The quintessential SPEAKERS of today’s programme were:
1. Engr. Prof. S. O. Onohaebi, FNSE, FNIPE, MyrP, the Rector and Chief Executive of the National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi, who presented a lucid and articulate lecture on: The Role of Academics in Global Development. He climaxed his presentation with the striking submission of ‘No Teacher, No future.
2. Isaac Anyira, the Polytechnic Librarian. He spoke on: Research and Organizational Development. He urged participants to imbibe journalistic instincts of cross-examining facts before transmission. He submitted that research is a collective effort of both teaching and non teaching staff for a better society and a progressive academic community for all and sundry.
3. Engr. Kingsley Agbonkhese, the Ag. Director of Research, Development and Publication. He discussed extensively on: Enhancing Today’s Performance for Tomorrow’s Challenges Through Effective Research and Development Administration. Engr. Kingsley pontificated on many issues which were not limited to the need to redirect our energies from negative forces to positive thinking that will engender development in the Institute and the society.
4. Engr. France Akpojedje, the Ag. Deputy Rector and Director of Academic Planning spoke on the Stages of Research: From Conception to Product. He made it crystal clear that whatever we are capable of conceiving in our hearts and minds, is capable of actualization. He posited that imagination leads to reality if carefully pursued to logical conclusion.
5. Abara Benjamin, the Ag. Dean of Applied Science. He concluded the programme on the topic: Repositioning Tertiary Institutions for Community Development Through Research. The tertiary  institutions are the hub of research and if any meaningful and sustainable development must take place in any country in the world, the tertiary institutions must be repositioned by policy makers by placing more premium on practical, realistic and rewarding research among others.
Today’s event has opened up  a new vistas of ideas, methods and products in the academic life of the polytechnic community.
It is hoped that it will be sustained and the lectures of today will be available either in hard or soft copies for participants and also as reference materials at the polytechnic library.
