The 12 Types of Lecturers You Will Meet in Polytechnic and Universities in Nigeria

As a student of tertiary institutions In Nigeria, you will meet different types of lecturers, both the good and bad ones. Knowing their attitude and behaviors can help you understand better the course they’re teaching and how to avoid having issues with them.

Whether you are a fresh or old student, there is a possibility that you will come across these types of lecturers, be it at a polytechnic, university, or college of education. What are the types of lecturers you will meet after gaining admission to the institution? They are as listed below:

1. THE MANDATORY LECTURER.

These types of lecturers mandate their handouts and textbooks. If you refuse to buy it, you may risk carrying the course over. They don’t joke with their textbook. So if any lecturer comes to your class and says his textbook carries “so so mark,” just know that he is a mandatory lecturer. They will be like, “My textbook is not compulsory but mandatory.”

2. THE STRICT LECTURER.

These types of lecturers are very strict with academics, and they rarely dash free marks. They don’t consider students at all. He comes to class with strict rules. He may even fix lectures for 6 a.m. If you miss his class, you will fail the course. Also, they hardly forgive, so pray you don’t have issues with them.

3. THE STORYTELLER.

This one will use half of the lecture hours to tell stories of how he spent his days at the university and how serious students were in those days compared to now. He brings his 1980s notebook to class and brags about it.

4. THE SADIST.

These types of lecturers don’t smile at all. They always look unhappy and threaten students with carryover, and they never give an “A” or “B.” He puts difficult questions in the exam to make students fail. He is usually the most hated lecturer.

4. THE COMEDIAN LECTURER.

Many students love him because his lectures are always lively, and you wouldn’t want to miss his class. He makes his teaching simple and understandable for the students. He is mostly referred to as a friendly lecturer.

5. THE STINGY LECTURER.

This is the type of lecturer who is stingy with marks. If you score 39, that is what he will record for you; he will never add 1 mark to it to let you go. They don’t assist students academically, nor do they help their students with lifts on campus.

6. THE CRAZY LECTURER.

He talks in an unusual manner and abuses any student who opposes him. He’s real and very serious. He’s too pompous and ‘oversabi’ His lectures may last for several hours until the students complain.

7. THE LAZY LECTURER.

They only come to class three times in a semester, and once they do, they hardly lecture for 30 minutes before they end the class. They usually give out materials for students to read and ask students to submit assignments and classwork online. Their lectures are always boring, and they don’t care whether you understand them or not.

8. THE FATHERLY LECTURER.

He’s always been mature and treats his or her students like their own. He teaches in such a way that every student will understand. He will also direct students to feel free to ask questions where they are confused. He hardly fails students, and anyone who fails truly knows that they failed.

9. THE RUNS LECTURER.

This type of lecturer does not teach to understand. They give out shabby materials to students, and what they are most concerned about is the money. So once a lecturer tells you to give what belongs to Cesar to Cesar, just know he is one of them. They give out marks in exchange for money. You can get B or C depending on the level of your pocket.

10. THE DOGGY LECTURER.

He takes advantage of every female student in his department and has slept with almost everyone. He pressured his students to succumb to his sexual desire. Hide yourself from him so you won’t be a victim.

11. THE RELIGIOUS LECTURER.

These are daddy GOs and mommy GOs. They come to class to preach the gospel. They complain about wearing makeup and ladies wearing trousers. They may even send you out of their class if you do anything that goes against their religious beliefs. He invites students to attend his church program. He’s always Godly. He may even separate the male students from the female students; they don’t need to tell you he’s a Muslim. They don’t take bribes.

12. THE ASSISTANT LECTURERS.

They usually serve as errand boys for the top lecturers in the department. They mark scripts, supervise exams, and also graduate to become P.A.s to the lecturers. They’re usually proud and aggressive, and sometimes they clash with students.

In conclusion, every lecturer is unique on their own, and they may not be as strict and wicked as students perceive them to be. There is a possibility of meeting any of these types of lecturers mentioned above.
