Prof. Abiodun Ojo, Professor of Programme Evaluation at Tai Solarin University of Education Ogun State, has presented his Inaugural Lecture on Thursday 6th July, 2023 at the institution’s Tetfund Main Hall.

In the inaugural lecture titled, Lamentation Of Nigeria University Graduates: Educational Evaluation On Rescue Mission, Prof Abiodun highlighted the major challenges of university education in Nigeria, which range from poor learning facilities to unconducive environment for learning, teaching from unmotivated lecturers, frustrated lecturers teaching frustrated students under frustrated condition, and deterioration of infrastructure.

Speaking further, he itemized some of the difficulties graduates faced in their search for jobs that match their qualifications.

“The causes of graduate unemployment include the relationship between the capital-intensive economy, the rapid growth of the graduate labour force, lack of relationship between educational institutions and industries, and lack of training to prepare for works and quality of education”.

While proffering solutions to the myriads of unemployment in Nigeria, Prof. Ojo said,

“There should be a National Bureau of Graduates Self Sustenance. In addition, there should be a well-packed enlightenment for the citizenry Universities should engage in concrete partnerships with employers of labour to develop a demand-driven curriculum that will produce graduates with knowledge and skills required for employment.”

He equally charged university graduates to take the bull by the horn, taking their destinies in their respective hands rather than resort to ‘pity parties’ and the  ‘blame game.’

The event had in attendance the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Oluwole S. Banjo, members of  the university Senate, traditional leaders in Ijebu-Ode and Igboora, staff of the institution, management and staff of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, business tycoons, and political bigwigs, among others.
