Plan your future during service year, NYSC DG advises corps members

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig Gen Y. D Ahmed, on Monday, counseled members of the NYSC to spend their service year reflecting on their lives and planning their future.
The Director General gave the advice while addressing members of the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2, at the ongoing orientation course in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The DG, who was on his routine camps tour to Kwara State, admonished corps members not to waste their service year on frivolities, urging them “to settle down and plan their life.
“You are all in your youthful age, you have a long way to go. The country needs you to take time to fully reflect on your life so that you can live a better life and even project into the future.
“This is the best time for you to reflect and plan your future. This is a good time for you to plan, you are serving the nation now and this is an opportunity for you to plan and project into your future. Make the best use of your service year to plan so that you live a better life and make Nigeria better.”
He urged them to shun frivolities and be focused on life, adding that they are full of potential.
“NYSC scheme is now providing the needed platform for you to explore the potentials,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed told the corps members to avoid unauthorised journeys, advising them not to travel in the night.
“Night journeys usually expose you (corps members) to hazard and danger, even if it is necessary for you to travel, you should not travel at night,” he warned.
He further encouraged the corps members to take advantage of NYSC Skills Acquisition programme (SAED), and acquire, at least, two skills while on national service.
“NYSC is in collaborations with various governmental and non-governmental organizations that will assist corps members in accessing needed funds to start up your businesses,” he said.
He also advised the corps members to be security conscious throughout the service year and wish them hitch-free orientation courses.
