OGITECH’S FIRST ANNUAL ACADEMIC LECTURE INSPIRES TECHNOLOGICAL GROWTH

The Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (OGITECH), successfully hosted its first Annual Academic Lecture on Friday, 22nd of November, 2024, at the Institute’s Multipurpose Hall. This maiden edition marks a monumental occasion under the leadership of the 3rd Substantive Rector, Dr. Abiodun Babatunde Oluseye .
The primary objective of the Annual Academic Lecture was to contribute to the technological advancement of the polytechnic system, which aligns with the institution’s developmental goals.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Oluseye expressed gratitude for the opportunity to organize the event. He emphasized the importance of developing the institution’s system, and highlighted the annual lecture as a crucial tool to sensitize the community and foster growth.
Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, represented by Mr. Bisiriyu AbdulAkeem, Zonal Education Officer of Ado/Odo OTA Local Government, commended the Institute for organizing the event. He expressed optimism that the Annual Lecture would contribute to the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration’s efforts to elevate the education sector in Ogun State.
Evangelist Joseph Kehinde Akinsoji, the Acting Chairman of the Governing Council at OGITECH, praised the institute’s Management for their visionary goals, which have positively impacted the institute’s development. He also expressed gratitude to Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, the state Governor, for his efforts to transform the education sector in Ogun State.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Idris Bugaje, the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education – NBTE , represented by his Special Assistant, Professor Diya’uddeen Basheer Hasan, delivered a comprehensive and insightful lecture on the theme “Fostering Nigeria’s Technological Advancement through a Virile Polytechnic System.”
According to Prof. Diya’uddeen, to make technical education relevant in the polytechnic sector, he suggested enhanced skills development to foster technological advancement, entrepreneurship, and industry partnerships. He noted that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has emphasized the importance of skills acquisition schemes in polytechnics.
Prof. Diya’uddeen also emphasized the need for curriculum review, industry partnerships, and mentorship to provide students with practical experience and exposure to contemporary industrial practices. The lecture was well-received by the audience.
The event was attended by dignitaries, Member of the Governing Council, Alh. Dauda Afolabi Olokun; and Mrs. Osho, who represented the Ministry of Education Science and Technology.
Others in attendance included the Principal Officers of the institution, among whom were Mrs. Shakirat Olajumoke Johnson, the Acting Registrar; Mr. Abdulsalam Ololade, the Acting Bursar; Miss Eseoghene Udi Eseoghene, the Acting Librarian; Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments and members of the Academic Board.
