How to Cook Delicious Soup with ₦1,000 Only (₦1K)

The cost of living has increased in recent years as foodstuffs have become so expensive that they are difficult to afford. However, there are still some tips you can apply to cook a low-budget, delicious soup and enjoy yourself. You have to learn how to manage your money nowadays to be able to cope with this harsh economy. Here is a step-by-step guide to cooking soup with ₦1,000 only:

1. Try Egusi Soup.

Egusi soup is very cheap and affordable. It is one of my favorite foods whenever I’m broke. So here is how to cook Egusi soup for ₦1,000.

Buy half a cup of egusi – ₦200, pepper – ₦200, Panla fish – ₦300 (Panla fish is a low-budget fish; you can get it for ₦300 or buy smoked small fish), Maggi – ₦50, and salt – you can ask your neighbor for salt. Additionally, one cup of palm oil – ₦200.

How to Cook Low-Budget Egusi Soup:

  1. Use a local blender to grind the egusi and pepper.
  2. Pour the egusi and pepper together into the pot. When it boils, add palm oil, Maggi, salt, and the fish, and stir together. Wait for a few minutes, and boom—your soup is ready.

3. Okra Soup.

You can still cook okra soup with ₦1,000 only.

Buy okra – ₦200, dry pepper – ₦200, locust bean – ₦100, one cup of palm oil – ₦200, and Panla fish – ₦300. Borrow Maggi and salt from your neighbor. These are the major ingredients to cook the soup. This soup can last you for two days. This is how I’ve been surviving since the economic meltdown.

3. Waterleaf Soup.

Waterleaf is a cheap vegetable. You can get it from a nearby bush during the rainy season or buy it from the market. Buy waterleaf – ₦100, egusi – ₦200, pepper – ₦200, and one cup of palm oil – ₦200. There is no need for fish; just buy ₦200 worth of crayfish, cook the soup, and enjoy it with hot eba, fufu, or amala.

4. Stew.

The price of tomatoes and pepper has gone up, but you can still cook a low-budget stew to suppress hunger during difficult times. How to Cook Stew: Look for a friendly Aboki and beg him to sell you tomatoes and pepper for ₦500. If you can speak Hausa, that will go a long way. Buy an onion for ₦50, palm oil for ₦200, and Maggi for ₦50. Buy crayfish for ₦200 and cook. Before you know it, the stew is ready.

5. Ugwu Soup.

Buy Ugwu – ₦200, egusi – ₦200, oil – ₦200, Panla fish – ₦300, Maggi – ₦50, and get salt from your neighbor. Use a local blender to grind the pepper and egusi and cook your soup. It goes well with any other swallow food.

In conclusion, if you are a good cook, you should be able to cook the aforementioned soups, and they will be delicious. These soups can be prepared when you are broke and hungry. They could last you for a few days until you are financially capable of preparing a richer soup.
