FG Education Reform: SS3 Transfers Banned to Ensure Fair Exams and Student Success

The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private schools, starting from the 2026/27 academic session. The directive aims to strengthen academic standards, ensure continuity in learning, and combat examination malpractice across Nigeria.
The policy, issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, restricts admissions and transfers strictly to Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2). Officials emphasized that no student will be allowed to enter SS3 under any circumstances.
According to the ministry, the decision comes in response to growing concerns over malpractice during national and state examinations, including the use of unauthorized “special centres” to gain unfair advantages. By preventing last-minute student movements into SS3, the government seeks to promote fairness, restore credibility to public examinations, and maintain proper academic monitoring.
School proprietors, principals, and administrators across the country have been directed to comply fully with the new policy. The ministry warned that any violation would attract sanctions in line with existing education regulations.
A statement from the ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, maintaining high educational standards, and ensuring that students are assessed fairly and transparently.
This measure is part of broader education reform efforts designed to enhance the quality of learning in Nigerian secondary schools and prepare students for credible and internationally recognized examinations.
