Federal Polytechnic Ohodo Strengthens Safety Partnership as Fire Service Pays Familiarization Visit

The management of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo has reaffirmed its commitment to safety and emergency preparedness following a familiarization visit by the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Enugu State Command.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, May 21, 2026, brought together the Rector, management, staff, and students of the Polytechnic to engage with the fire safety agency on strategies for improved collaboration and enhanced fire prevention awareness within the institution.
Leading the delegation, the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Enugu State Command, Dr. Ezeora Godwin Chinweuba, explained that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen relationships with federal institutions and promote fire safety education across campuses and communities.
He noted that the Federal Fire Service plays a critical role in safeguarding lives and property, adding that the South-East Zonal Command covers Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Imo States.
Dr. Chinweuba emphasized the importance of fire safety consciousness, urging institutions to prioritize preventive measures and continuous public enlightenment. He also requested the allocation of a space within the Polytechnic premises for the establishment of a Fire Service office to improve emergency response time and strengthen safety operations around the campus.
In his response, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo, Dr. Ediri Emmanuel Agada, commended the Federal Fire Service for its dedication to protecting lives and property across the country.
He expressed support for the proposed establishment of a Fire Service presence within the institution, noting that it would further enhance campus safety and emergency preparedness. The Rector also assured the delegation that the Polytechnic already maintains fire safety compliance measures, including the provision of firefighting equipment across key locations within the campus.
Dr. Agada further approved the request for office space within the institution to facilitate the Fire Service’s operations.
The Registrar, Dr. Obini Onuchukwu, appreciated the delegation for the visit and encouraged the Fire Service to intensify awareness campaigns and community-based fire safety education to reduce preventable fire incidents.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Rector, Dr. Cornelius Ogayi, expressed appreciation to the Federal Fire Service team for their engagement and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining strong partnerships with relevant government agencies in the interest of safety and institutional development.
The visit ended on a positive note, further strengthening the relationship between Federal Polytechnic Ohodo and the Federal Fire Service in promoting safety awareness, preparedness, and rapid emergency response within the campus community.
Other principal officers and members of the Polytechnic management were also present at the event.
