Federal Polytechnic Ayede Equips SLT Students With Practical Electronics Skills as 2026/2027 Admission Opens

Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, has reaffirmed its commitment to producing industry-ready graduates by providing Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) students with hands-on electronics training through a practical Physics laboratory exercise.

The practical session, conducted under the institution’s competency-based learning approach championed by the Acting Rector, Engr. Dr. T. M. Adepoju, focused on Soldering and Desoldering Techniques as part of the STP 222 Physics Practical course.

During the exercise, students moved beyond classroom theory by assembling and dismantling electronic components using standard laboratory equipment. They successfully soldered four different resistors onto a construction board with soldering irons before measuring the electrical resistance of each component using digital multimeters to confirm accuracy and proper functionality.

The students also practiced desoldering the components with desoldering pumps, allowing them to develop the technical skills required for both the installation and safe removal of electronic components.

Laboratory technologists supervising the practical explained that the exercise was designed to expose students to essential electronic assembly and maintenance procedures while improving their troubleshooting ability, laboratory safety awareness, precision and technical competence. The training also prepares students for careers in electronics, instrumentation, industrial maintenance and scientific research.

The institution stated that its emphasis on practical education is backed by well-equipped laboratories, experienced lecturers and dedicated laboratory technologists who ensure students graduate with the skills demanded by modern industries.
