The Federal Polytechnic Ayede is proving to be a breeding ground for innovation and entrepreneurship as students recently displayed their ingenuity at the 2024/2025 Practical Presentation Day for Entrepreneurship Development (EED 216). Under the visionary leadership of Rector Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed (FNSE), the institution continues to foster an environment where students are not just diploma holders but entrepreneurs-in-training.

The event, held at the Multipurpose Hannah Hall, showcased the exceptional work of students in the Departments of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) and Agricultural Technology. Each group presented products developed as part of their coursework, which accounts for 60% of their assessment. This event was part of the Polytechnic’s initiative to cultivate a Group-Based Innovation hub aimed at Market-Driven Learning.

Rector Abdul-Hameed emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship education, stating, “This practical session evaluates students’ ability to apply theoretical learning to real-life challenges in science, agriculture, and enterprise development.” The products displayed at the event ranged from nutritious snacks to eco-friendly disinfectants, all developed using locally sourced materials.

Among the notable innovations were “Golden Chinchin” — an energizing snack targeting health-conscious consumers, and “Eco Peanut,” a sustainable alternative to traditional groundnut snacks. Students even wowed the audience with a unique disinfectant that promised efficacy and affordability, echoing the standards of established brands.

The event also highlighted resilience among the students. One particular group from the SLT department faced a significant setback when their materials spoiled just before their presentation. Instead of faltering, they quickly adapted, sourced fresh ingredients, and delivered a compelling showcase that drew praise from assessors.

The presentations were evaluated by a distinguished panel of professionals, who highlighted the creativity, product quality, branding strategy, and market feasibility of the students’ projects. The positive feedback underscored the Polytechnic’s commitment to not only academic excellence but also real-world applicability in entrepreneurship.
