AFIT EXPELS SEVEN STUDENTS FOR MISCONDUCT
AFIT EXPELS SEVEN STUDENTS FOR MISCONDUCT

In line with its strict enforcement of set rules, the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), has expelled seven students for gross misconduct. The students tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol commonly called marijuana following a random sampling of students for illicit drug use. The weed is among substances considered as illicit drugs by the Institute and banned for all students.
The students who were all from the School of Basic and Remedial Studies were undergoing preliminary studies to qualify for full entry into their chosen field of study. The development again reinforces AFIT’s zero tolerance for narcotics or any kind of banned substances for all students. The Institute has a tradition of informing new students during orientation that consumption of hard drugs was not allowed and the consequences were spelt out in the Students Code of Conduct Handbook.
According to the Director, School of Basic and Remedial Studies, Air Commodore HJ Ali, a surprise search was carried out following allegations of illicit use of marijuana by some students which led to the toxicology test where 7 of them were found culpable. The expelled students are Mr Yusuf O Abdullahi (308/SBRS/24), Mr Ezima King Success (046/SBRS/24), Mr Kamba Chakiram (142/SBRS/24) and Mr Rabiu Muritala (075/SBRS/240. Others are Mr Musa Isah Tifima (068/SBRS/24), Mr Nwukoso Joseph Ndubisi (149/SBRS/24) and Mr Matthew Moses Ojonimi (065/SBRS/24). Their status as students have therefore been immediately withdrawn as a deterrence to others who may be tempted to disobey laid down rules.
