OGITECH Management Condemns Alleged Police Brutality Against Students, Demands Justice

The Management of Ogun State Institute of Technology has strongly condemned the alleged brutality and harassment of its students, including the Students’ Union President, by officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a public notice released by the institution, the incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and has sparked serious concern within the Polytechnic community.

The Management described the alleged assault as “unwarranted” and expressed deep dissatisfaction over what it called the continuous harassment and intimidation of students by certain police officers.

In the statement, the institution stressed that no student should be subjected to violence, intimidation, or physical abuse, insisting that the safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of all members of the OGITECH community remain non-negotiable.

The institution further stated that it is tired of the recurring cases of alleged police brutality against its students, adding that learners should not be treated as targets for aggression and intimidation.

In response to the development, the Management led by Dr. Abiodun Oluseye disclosed that the matter has been officially reported to the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command.

According to the statement, the Police Commissioner has assured the institution of a thorough and impartial investigation, while promising that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action in accordance with the law.

The Management also revealed that affected students are currently receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support facilitated by the institution to aid their physical and emotional recovery.

While acknowledging the anger and frustration among students, the institution appealed for calm and restraint, assuring students that it is actively pursuing justice through appropriate legal and administrative channels.

Students were advised to continue their academic activities as the Management remains in constant communication with relevant security authorities to ensure the safety of students both on and off campus.

The Polytechnic reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against brutality and abuse of power, promising to keep the school community updated as investigations continue.
