4 Years in Polytechnic + 1 Year NYSC = Total Waste of Time? Twitter User Sparks Hot Debate Among Nigerian Youths

A single tweet has set the internet on fire!
According to the user, spending 4 years in a polytechnic and then adding 1 year for NYSC is nothing but a total waste of time. Instead, he advised young Nigerians to go straight into learning skills like aluminium work, furniture making, or hairdressing—claiming those paths may lead to quicker success and financial freedom.
His words didn’t sit well with many. Some strongly agreed, pointing to the rising unemployment among graduates. Others clapped back, saying polytechnics open doors to professional careers, higher qualifications, and life-changing opportunities.
Now the big question is: Is formal education still worth it, or should skills take the front seat in today’s Nigeria?
