2026 AfDB–SHOU Fully Funded Scholarships Announced for African Students: Apply Now

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB), in partnership with Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 SHOU Scholarship Programme, calling on qualified African students to apply for fully funded academic opportunities in China.
The initiative supports the AfDB’s Ten-Year Strategy (2024–2033), which aims to strengthen Africa’s technical capacity in sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, and marine resource management. The scholarship programme is designed to develop a new generation of experts who will play a critical role in advancing the continent’s blue economy.
Shanghai Ocean University is a globally respected institution known for its excellence in marine sciences, aquaculture innovation, and ocean governance. With partnerships spanning more than 40 international organisations and academic institutions, SHOU provides world-class research facilities and cutting-edge scientific training.
As Africa’s leading multilateral development finance institution, the AfDB continues to invest in human-capital development and specialized education to drive sustainable economic growth and technological advancement across the continent.
The 2026 scholarship offers placement at SHOU in Shanghai, China, and includes opportunities in multiple programme categories:
Summer School Programmes
Master’s Degree Programmes
PhD Programmes
Successful applicants will receive full tuition coverage, accommodation, meals and monthly stipends. Awardees will also have access to advanced laboratories, globally recognised faculty, and professional training in marine and aquatic sciences. However, candidates are required to cover the cost of their flight tickets and visa processing.
The AfDB and SHOU encourage talented students across Africa to apply, noting that the programme provides a rare opportunity for specialised training that can directly contribute to Africa’s transformation in the global blue economy.
Applications must be submitted online through the official 2026 AfDB–SHOU Scholarship portal. The deadline for submissions is 10 December 2025.
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements, including proof of English proficiency with a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL score of 80. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further steps, and scholarship recipients are expected to comply fully with SHOU’s academic and conduct regulations. The fellowship does not provide employment with the African Development Bank Group. CLICK HERE TO APPLY
