Senator Salisu Invests in Digital Skills: Ogun Students Receive Laptops and ICT Empowerment Grants

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, Senator Shuaibu Salisu, has empowered 200 students and youths across Ogun State with new laptops and cash support, following a comprehensive digital literacy programme held in Abeokuta.
Senator Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, addressed participants virtually from Kenya, where he is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 3rd Africa Forum on Cyber Security Summit. He encouraged young Nigerians to embrace leadership, continuous learning and responsible citizenship as they advance in their academic and career journeys.
The empowerment marks the conclusion of a three-day intensive ICT training designed to strengthen digital skills among students and youth leaders. Salisu reiterated his commitment to human-capital development, noting that technology-focused empowerment is central to his legislative priorities.
According to him, investing in digital knowledge offers long-term value, saying the programme was designed to equip beneficiaries with skills that can open doors to employment and innovation. He described technology-driven support as “dignified, impactful and essential for personal and economic growth.”
Beneficiaries were selected from several institutions, including the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB); D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Ewekoro; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Abeokuta Campus; Federal College of Education, Osiele; and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. Youth representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Ogun Central Muslim Community also participated in the training.
Senator Salisu urged beneficiaries to use their new skills productively and assured them of continued quality representation. He recalled his early days as a student senator at the University of Lagos, noting that his commitment to education and youth empowerment is rooted in personal experience. He reaffirmed that education remains the foundation of sustainable development.
Highlighting some of the projects facilitated in his constituency, including the rehabilitation of the Camp–FUNAAB road, Salisu promised to push for federal intervention on the deteriorating Camp–Osiele and Adatan–Obantoko–Odeda–Ibadan roads.
Local leaders, including the Leader of the Odeda Legislative House, Hon. Rotimi Adeyemi; the Senator’s Chief of Staff, Oloye Fasiu Alimi; and Senior Legislative Aide, Sunkanmi Oliyide, commended his dedication to youth development and digital empowerment.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the training has helped them transition from everyday digital consumers to creators capable of contributing to innovation in their institutions and communities.
Each participant received a laptop and a cash support of ₦50,000.
