Students Protest as Polytechnic Lecturers Declares Indefinite Strike in Bauchi
Students Protest as Polytechnic Lecturers Declares Indefinite Strike in Bauchi

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) which comprises the Academic staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Non-Academic staff Union has declared a two weeks warning strike with effect from Tuesday 19th to Saturday 30th July 2022 in all the State-owned Institutions in Bauchi state.

Both academic and Non academic activities are to be shut down till further notice. The purpose of the strike action according to the Union is to pressure for their honorarium from the state government.

The joint Action committee urged all Teaching and Non Teaching staff to comply with this directive as contained in a statement released on Tuesday.

The statement reads,

“Following the unfolding developments in the JAC struggle to regain our member’s entitlements from the Bauchi State Government, and as widely communicated to appropriate stakeholders in the State, the JAC formally extends this notice to you. The warning strike begins Tuesday 19th to Saturday 30 July, 2022.

“Note that all academic and non-academic activities will be shut down till further notice. This includes both primary and secondary assignments, including the consultancy services, staff schools, undergraduate programmes, administrative activities and what have you.”

The affected institution include The Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere,  A.D Rufa’l College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau, Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Bauchi and Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare.

Following the declaration of the warning strike, The SUG president of the Abubakar Tatari Ali polytechnic Bauchi on Tuesday led a peaceful protest to the government office in Bauchi as they demand for the immediate resumption of academic activities.

The students called on the state government to quickly pay the Lecturers entitlement so that they can return to the classroom for the continuation of academic activities.
