Security Not Our Responsibility- Bauchi SUG Clarify Students

The Student Union Government (SUG) of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has clarified that it is not responsible for providing security to students living outside school premises, rather the union’s role is to present students’ complaints to the school management
In an interview with GwalamejeNews, the Director of Media and Publicity, Aliyu Musa, and the union’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Dalla, explained that security matters fall outside the union’s jurisdiction adding that the union is trying its best to ensure things are implemented well
“Our role is to implement student interests, raise their concerns, and speak on behalf of the students to the management” he added
“We are doing our best to ensure security measures are implemented, and sometimes, we accompany the SUG president on inspections to assess the situation.” He explained
Emmanuel on his own part added that students living around the small gate area often conduct night patrols
“We usually go out on patrols, and sometimes, we encounter army and security personnel” he said
However, Emmanuel said his team is not aware of the duration of their patrols “since we are not responsible for deploying them.” He added
“We have also provided hotlines for students to contact in case of emergencies” he explained
The SUG’s clarification comes amid concerns about student safety outside the school premises especially students residing in Gwallameji community
