Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Hosts Career Development Workshop

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo State, organized a career workshop on Wednesday, focused on preparing students for the professional world under the theme “Unlock Your Potential.”
The event, arranged by the Career Service Center Unit, featured speeches, presentations, and interactive sessions designed to provide students with valuable insights into navigating their future careers.
The workshop began with a welcome address from the Polytechnic’s Career Service Director, Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye, who emphasized the event’s importance for students’ academic and professional growth. He explained that the workshop was meant to offer “invaluable insights, guidance, and inspiration” to help students make well-informed career choices.
“Our distinguished speakers are here to share their experiences, insights, and wisdom,” he said, encouraging students to engage actively with the speakers and take full advantage of the learning opportunities.
The programme included experts from various industries who shared personal stories and career advice, offering a unique perspective that went beyond academic knowledge. These speakers, having navigated similar challenges, provided useful guidance for the students.
Mr. Adegun Olorunwa, the Polytechnic’s Rector, addressed the audience, stating that the institution aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing work environment. He pointed out that the career fair demonstrated the Polytechnic’s commitment to offering students the resources and opportunities needed for success.
The event featured a keynote speech from Dr. Olugbenga Jinadu, Director of Academic Planning, who discussed the challenges in various sectors like healthcare and finance. He highlighted the importance of adaptability and continuous learning to thrive in the job market. Dr. Jinadu encouraged students to overcome obstacles and tap into their full potential, urging them to stay focused and not fear failure.
Mr. Anthony Olasele also spoke to the students, advising them to anticipate their competitors’ moves. He stressed the importance of setting SMART goals in life and emphasized the value of sportsmanship, as well as a willingness to learn and relearn.
Prince Adegbehingbe also addressed the students, stressing the importance of environmental factors in business and advising them to remain undeterred by discouragement. He emphasized that identifying one’s passion is crucial, as it helps shape career choices and personal development, guiding individuals toward their true calling.
The seminar left attendees motivated and better equipped to navigate the next steps in their careers, fulfilling the institution’s commitment to supporting student growth beyond academics.
