Polytechnics that Offer ND/HND Surveying & Geo-informatics With their Entry Requirements
The National Diploma Programme in Surveying and Geo-Informatics is aimed at producing diplomates that can demonstrate sound understanding of the methods and instruments used in Geo-Informatics. On the completion of this programme, the diplomate should be able to:
- Interpret spatial measurements from various sources;
- Operate Geo-Informatics instruments;
- Carry out cadastral survey to define boundaries of land;
- Apply the basic principles of surveying and method in Geo-Informatics;
- Interpret imageries;
- Compile maps at various scales from imageries; and
- Carry out cartographic processes for presentation of Geo-Informatics.
The Higher National Diploma Programme in Surveying and Geo-Informatics is aimed at producing diplomates with a good mastery of the methods and instrumentation used in Geo-Informatics. On completion of this programme, the student should be able to:
- Operate various Geo-Informatics equipment;
- Use land administration procedures in various cadastral system
- Carry out engineering surveys for physical developments such as roads, railways, dams, pipelines, large industrial sites,
- utilities,etc.
- Carry out geodetic and topographical surveys for controlling all survey works and for geo-informatics production;
- To acquire spatial data using photogrammetric and remote-sensing techniques.
- Carry out Cartographic process for Geo-Information production;
- Carry out hydrographic survey;
- Apply the basic principles of management in solving, at appropriate level, management and supervisory problems related to Geo-Informatics environment.
- Apply geo-information technology in environmental mapping, monitoring and protection; and
- Manipulate a geographic information system for geo-information production.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OF THE ND PROGRAMME
Candidates who desire to be admitted into the programme should possess:
- (a) Four GCE ‘O’ Level or WASC or SSSC/NECO or NTC/ANTC with credit passes in relevant subjects to the programme, i.e., Mathematics, and English Language, one subject from the followings: Economics, Geography, Technical Drawing, Statistics and one Science subject from Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Agricultural Science, Fine Art;
- (b) Four credit passes in relevant subjects obtained at the final examination of an NBTE recognized Preliminary ND programme offered in a Polytechnic or similar post-secondary Technical Institution on a foundation of four passes in subjects relevant to the programme.
The National Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning is a two-year programme of four semesters, each of 15 weeks duration. A minimum of 4 months of Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is required at the end of the first year ND I.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HND PROGRAMME
National Diploma Programme:
Applicants with the following qualifications may be considered for admission into the National Diploma Programme by direct entry:
- SSCE or its equivalents with credit passes in Mathematics and Physics and any other two subjects from the following: Statistics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Basic Surveying, Geography, Economics, Biology/Agricultural Science and at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sittings.
- Four credit passes in relevant subjects as stated in (i) above obtained at the final examination of an NBTE recognised preliminary
- ND Programme offered in Polytechnic or similar post-secondary technical institution.
- OR NTC in Building Trades in relevant subjects as stated in (i) above
