Plateau State Polytechnic Opens Top Vacancy Positions: Here’s How to Apply

Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi has officially opened its doors to qualified candidates, both internally and externally, for three major leadership positions: Rector, Registrar, and Director of Works & Engineering Services. This announcement, made on May 11, 2025, is a strategic move to strengthen its academic and administrative leadership.
About the Polytechnic
Established in 1981, Plateau State Polytechnic has grown from a college of technology to a full-fledged polytechnic located in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State. It is accredited by NBTE and recognized by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). The polytechnic offers ND, NCE (Technical), and HND programs across several technical and vocational disciplines.
Open Positions
1. Rector
The Rector is the top academic and administrative officer of the Polytechnic. The appointee will oversee staff and students, enforce discipline, and provide visionary leadership.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Engineering, Science, Technology, Management, or related fields.
- At least 15 years of teaching and research experience.
- Minimum of 5 years at the rank of Chief Lecturer or equivalent.
- Proven leadership, innovation, and ability to attract external funding.
Term of Office: 4 years (renewable for another 4 years).
2. Registrar
The Registrar will be in charge of the Polytechnic’s administrative system and serves as the Secretary to the Governing Council, Academic Board, and other statutory bodies.
Requirements:
- Minimum of Second Class Lower degree (preferably in Social Sciences or Humanities).
- 15 years of administrative experience, with at least 10 years in tertiary education.
- Must be a Deputy Registrar or equivalent.
- Membership in a recognized professional body is an added advantage.
- Strong ICT and communication skills.
Term of Office: 5 years (renewable for another 5 years).
3. Bursar
The Bursar is responsible for managing the Polytechnic’s financial affairs and reports directly to the Rector.
Requirements:
- Honours degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Membership of recognized accounting bodies like ICAN, ANAN, or ACCA.
- At least 15 years post-qualification experience with 10 years in tertiary institutions.
- Must be a Chief Accountant or Deputy Bursar.
Term of Office: 5 years (renewable for another 5 years).
4. Director of Works & Engineering Services
This role involves managing the Polytechnic’s physical infrastructure and technical facilities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical).
- COREN registration is a must.
- 18 years post-qualification experience (for Bachelor’s degree holders), or 14 years (for Master’s degree holders).
- Must have served as a Chief Engineer or Deputy Director.
Term of Office: 4 years (renewable).
General Conditions for All Positions
All applicants must:
- Be physically and mentally fit.
- Demonstrate good conduct and character.
- Be ICT literate.
- Not be older than 60 years at the time of appointment.
- Be ready to serve in full-time capacity.
