Panic as Fire Guts Girls’ Hostel at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo

Panic erupted at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, on Saturday morning after a fire broke out at the institution’s Girls’ Hostel, forcing students to flee for safety.
Eyewitnesses reported that the inferno started in one of the rooms before spreading quickly to other parts of the building, worsened by dry weather conditions and the congested nature of the hostel. Students, in a desperate bid to escape, abandoned their belongings as thick smoke and flames engulfed the hostel.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours, threw the campus into chaos as security operatives struggled to control the crowd of anxious students and sympathizers who gathered around the scene.
Emergency responders from the Ondo State Fire Service were promptly mobilized to the campus to battle the flames. Fire trucks were deployed, and firefighters worked to contain the blaze, while officials urged students and staff to remain calm and avoid the affected area to ensure unhindered operations.
As of the time of this report, no casualties had been confirmed, but the full extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained.
