Outrage in Delta as ND2 Student Shot Dead by Vigilante Neighbor Inside Hostel Room

Tragedy struck Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, as a National Diploma 2 (ND2) student was reportedly shot dead by a vigilante personnel believed to be his neighbor. The incident occurred in the victim’s room while he was preparing for his next examination.
Eyewitness reports indicate the shooting may have resulted from an accidental discharge, but the circumstances surrounding the vigilante’s presence in the student’s room remain unclear and suspicious. The victim died on the spot.
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), South South Zone, has expressed outrage over the killing and is demanding swift and thorough investigation within 48 hours. In a letter dated May 1st, 2025, addressed to the Commissioner, the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Jemima Ganagana, called for immediate action to uncover the truth and deliver justice.
“The student’s murder is not just a tragic loss, but a violation of safety and trust within an academic environment,” the letter reads. “The authorities must act decisively to investigate the motive and hold the responsible party accountable.”
The vigilante, now in police custody, is expected to face intense questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
NAPS has warned that if no action is taken within the stipulated time, they will mobilize students across the region for peaceful protests and continue advocacy efforts to ensure justice is served.
The Delta State Police Command is yet to release an official statement regarding the case.
