MTN Always-On Data Plan: Everything You Need to Know (15 GB for ₦3,000 / 45 GB for ₦6,000)

MTN Nigeria has introduced the Always-On Data Plan, a bundle designed to give users reliable day and night internet usage. If you’ve heard about the “45 GB for ₦6,000” or “15 GB for ₦3,000” deals and want to know how it works, how to subscribe, whether it’s legit, and how to make the most of it, this guide covers every detail.
What is MTN Always-On?
The MTN Always-On plan combines both daily data allocation and a night usage benefit. It aims to serve users who consume data throughout the day, especially at night when many devices are more active (streaming, downloads, updates, etc.). MTN structures it so you get a fixed daily allowance, and any unused portion can roll over.
Plan Options & Daily Allocations
MTN offers two main Always-On plans:
- 15 GB for ₦3,000: You receive 500 MB per day for 30 days. Unused portions of the daily allocation roll over to the next day, stacking up.
- 45 GB for ₦6,000: You get 1.5 GB per day, same 30-day validity, and same rollover policy for unused daily data.
So if you don’t use all the daily data one day, that leftover can be used the next day, giving flexibility for heavier use on some days.
How to Subscribe
To activate the MTN Always-On plan, you have multiple options: via USSD, SMS, or the myMTN app.
For the 45 GB / ₦6,000 plan:
- Dial 312163#
- Alternatively, 3121*5# can also work
- Select whether you want auto renewal
- Confirm payment (make sure you have ₦6,000 airtime or account balance)
For the 15 GB / ₦3,000 plan:
- Dial 312162#
- Or use 312151#
- Proceed similarly: confirm amount, accept terms, and get the daily data instantly
Checking Your Data & Managing Bundles
You can check how much Always-On data you’ve used (or what remains) through:
- USSD code 3234#
- USSD code *310#
- Sending SMS “2” to 312
- Through the myMTN mobile app or web portal
- Using MTN’s chatbot (“Zigi”)
If you have more than one Always-On bundle, each stays active with its own expiry date. The bundle with the least remaining validity is used first.
Sharing Data
MTN also allows you to share (gift) your Always-On data with another MTN user. The process:
- Dial *312#
- Choose “Gift data” option
- Enter the recipient’s MTN number
- Specify how much data you want to send
This transferred data inherits the same 30-day validity as the original bundle.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Very affordable daily data quotas
- Unused daily data rolls over, which means more flexibility
- 30-day validity gives time to use data fully
- Sharing/gifting possible
Cons
- Daily cap (you can’t exceed the daily allocation on any single day, even if you have rollover credit)
- Depending on usage patterns, heavy users might find limits restrictive
- Sometimes USSD or the subscription method may show “service temporarily unavailable” due to system/higher demand issues
Is It Still Available & Legit?
While MTN’s Always-On has been confirmed through official MTN channels as a genuine plan, some users have reported that at certain times the plan becomes unavailable or the subscription codes return “service temporarily unavailable.” Plans and pricing can change, so always confirm through MTN’s official site or customer service before subscribing.
Tips to Maximize Value
- Stick to the plan option that matches your average daily use (if you often use more at night vs during the day).
- Don’t let rollover data expire—plan to use leftover data on lighter days.
- Use apps or tools to monitor data usage so you don’t overspend.
- If you share data a lot, make sure the recipient uses it before it expires.
