The Federal Ministry of Education has launched its nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, offering young Nigerians an opportunity to acquire practical skills, earn a monthly stipend of ₦45,000, and receive start-up support for their careers or businesses.
The application portal opened on May 30, 2025, and remains active, giving school leavers, job seekers, and graduates from any educational background access to tuition-free training at accredited centers across Nigeria.
About the TVET Program
The TVET initiative is designed to close the skills gap and boost employability among Nigerian youth. It covers technical, vocational, and innovation-based training tracks. Beyond free training, participants will receive:
- ₦45,000 monthly stipend
- Start-up support or job placement assistance
- Industry-recognized certificates upon completion
The training centers are strategically located in all six geopolitical zones, ensuring equal access for applicants across the country.
As of June 3, over 90,000 applications had been submitted within just a few days of the portal’s launch—a clear sign of strong public interest.
Who Can Apply?
The program is open to all Nigerian citizens who meet the following basic criteria:
- Must have a valid National Identity Number (NIN)
- Must possess a Bank Verification Number (BVN)
- Must provide personal details and a form of educational history or informal training record
There are no specific academic requirements, making the program accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who completed apprenticeships, participated in community learning programs, or earned a First School Leaving Certificate.
Step-by-Step Guide to Apply for TVET
Step 1: Visit the Official Portal
Go to https://tvet.education.gov.ng — this is the only authorized website for submitting your application.
Step 2: Click on “Apply”
On the homepage, locate and click the “Apply” button to initiate your registration.
Step 3: Verify Your Identity
You’ll be redirected to a verification page where you need to enter your NIN and date of birth.
Step 4: Confirm Phone Number and Email
Input the phone number linked to your NIN and a valid email address. A One-Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your phone for further verification.
Step 5: Create Your Profile
After verification, your profile will be created automatically. You’ll then be redirected to the applicant dashboard to proceed with the application.
Step 6: Choose a Training Track
You’ll be asked to select one of the following tracks based on your interests and availability:
- Short-Term Certificate (STC) – 6 months
- Vocational Education & Innovation (VEI) – 1 year
Step 7: Upload Required Documents
You must upload:
- Bank Verification Number (BVN)
- Proof of educational background or training (e.g., First School Leaving Certificate, informal apprenticeship record, community development certificates)
- Personal information
Step 8: Final Submission
Double-check all your details and click “Submit” to complete your application.
What to Expect After Applying
Successful applicants will undergo training in government-approved technical and vocational centers that offer instruction in high-demand skills across sectors such as technology, construction, electrical works, tailoring, agriculture, hospitality, and more.
Upon completion, participants will receive an industry-standard certificate recognized by both public and private sector employers. In addition, the program includes pathways for:
