GOV. EMMANUEL COMMISSIONS PETROLEUM OIL AND GAS AUTOMATION TRAINING LABORATORY
The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel inaugurated a Petroleum Oil and Gas Automation Training Laboratory in Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo.
The Governor inaugurated the learning center on Friday, during the 1st matriculation exercise held at the school’s sports ground.
Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, the state Chief executive commended the management of the polytechnic by being a partner in Educational advancement.
He seized the opportunity to charge the matriculants to shun cultism and other social vices capable of stopping them from completing their academic pursuit.
Meanwhile, the founder and chairman Board of Trustees of the institution, Engr ( Dr) Victor Williams in his welcome address, disclosed that the institution was established in 2001 as a College of petroleum technology but later changed to Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic in 2014 with the aim of building a reservoir of highly skilled manpower for petroleum and allied skills.
He said that the institution is built according to the master plan of promoting excellent teaching in a Serene and conducive learning environment.
Earlier, the Rector, Hon. Engr. Nnamonso Akpabio in his remarks, thanked the Government of Akwa Ibom State for creating an enabling environment for private businesses to thrive. He maintained that the Polytechnic was approved and licenced by the Federal Ministry of Education and National Board for Technical Education (FME / NBTE) in 2001 to operate as a private Polytechnic in Nigeria.
Prominent dignitaries also present at the occasion include the permanent secretary, ministry of education, lady Rose Bassey and Director, State Education Quality Assurance Service, Mrs Roseline Anthony Mfon , Director, Secondary and Higher Education, Dr Glory Ekpo amongst others.
