FPE: Students Blows Hot as Rector Orders Postponement of Academic Activities- Press Club Reports
The students of the Federal Polytechnic Ede have taken to the air and stormed the school premises to express their disappointment and heartbreak over the circular released by the management dated November 3rd, 2020 to postpone academic activities again, blaming the school management for the delay in academic activities being caused by the crisis between the management and ASUP.
It been two (2) weeks of no academic activities in the institution as lecturers vowed to continue the action of boycotting their duty until the management meets their demands.
The situation is already taking its toll on the students, as fresh students who just gained admission into the school are becoming restless while final year students are getting frustrated over the lecturers’ strike and the management suspension of Academic activities every week.
The students have been reacting to this endless actions and some of them who spoke with the PRESS expressed their worries and frustration about the situation.
An ND 1 student, name and department withheld, said; “We are back from the Covid-19 break hoping for a very busy and challenging learning experience but then the school has been suspending academic activities for the past 2 weeks. Efforts to read on our own have been boring and unchallenging, as there is no lecturer to guide.”
Another fresh students lamented, “This strike is not good for us, especially those of us that are still fresh on campus. We are not happy because we are being delayed for no fault of ours. We are even losing confidence in the system. We appeal to the SUG and other appropriate quarters to urgently act on the demands made by the ASUP.
This disruption has placed a financial burden on many students as it did not allow students to plan for their future and how to source fund for the next session especially those that are sponsoring themselves. Knowing that your mates in other institutions are graduating before you can really be depressing, which can also lead to demotivation.
The students hereby demand a swift action from the Students’ Union Government as they believed that the management action may force some students to go back to their various houses since academic activities had been grounded.
