FG Launches N50m Student Venture Capital Grant: How to Apply for Nigeria’s Biggest Startup Funding Programme

The Federal Government has launched the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a major national programme designed to turn innovative student ideas into commercially viable, high-impact businesses.

The S-VCG is a key component of the Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to nurture a new generation of young Nigerian innovators capable of driving economic growth, technological advancement and global competitiveness.

Announcing the initiative in Abuja, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized its strategic importance, stating that the government is actively seeking transformative ideas with the potential to birth Nigeria’s next globally recognized companies. He noted that the initiative represents an equity-free investment in the country’s future.

The programme is specifically structured to support groundbreaking, student-led ventures that address real-world challenges and show strong potential for scalability and commercial success. Under the scheme, student founders in STEMM fields—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences—can access up to N50 million in equity-free funding.

Beyond financial support, selected innovators will be enrolled into a robust development ecosystem that includes expert mentorship, startup incubation, business development tools, access to industry networks and the technical resources required to build and scale sustainable enterprises. This ensures that funded ideas can grow from concept stage to market-ready solutions.

To strengthen the programme, the Ministry of Education has partnered with Google to introduce advanced technology into the application and evaluation stages. Through this collaboration, Google’s Gemini AI provides intelligent evaluation support via custom-built review agents embedded within the application portal, enhancing fairness and efficiency.

All applicants who complete their submission will also receive a free one-year Google Gemini Pro licence, including access to premium learning resources to boost their technical and entrepreneurial skills.

According to the ministry, the goal of this partnership is to equip Nigerian students with world-class digital tools from the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey, creating a strong pipeline that accelerates ideas into market leadership.

Eligible students currently enrolled in accredited tertiary institutions across Nigeria are encouraged to apply through the official portal at https://svcg.education.gov.ng. Applicants are advised to submit proposals that clearly demonstrate market relevance, scalability and the capacity to address critical national or global problems.
