No degree? No problem: Highest Paying Jobs That Don’t Require a Diploma: Your Path to $100K+

You don’t need a college degree to secure a high-paying career. As the U.S. labor market evolves, many well-paying jobs are accessible through certifications, apprenticeships, or specialized training programs rather than a traditional four-year degree. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, several occupations offer six-figure salaries without requiring a college diploma. Even the lowest-paying jobs on this list pay more than $80,000 annually, making them excellent options for individuals seeking financial stability without pursuing higher education.
Air Traffic Controllers top the list, earning an average of $144,580 per year. These positions require completing rigorous training programs and attending the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, with less than 10% of applicants accepted. Commercial Pilots (non-airline) follow with an average salary of $122,670, while Nuclear Power Reactor Operators earn around $122,610 annually. Elevator and Escalator Installers and Repairers can make $106,580, and First-Line Supervisors of Police and Detectives earn $105,980.
Power Plant Distributors and Dispatchers make $103,600, Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers earn $102,010, and Power Plant Operators average $99,670. Petroleum Pump System Operators, Refinery Operators, and Gaugers take home $97,540, and Detectives and Criminal Investigators earn $93,580. Postmasters and Mail Superintendents earn $92,730, while Electrical Power-Line Installers and Repairers make $92,560.
Farmers, Ranchers, and Agricultural Managers earn $87,980, Transportation Inspectors $85,750, and Gambling Managers at casinos or racetracks take home $85,580. Subway and Streetcar Operators earn $84,830, First-Line Supervisors of Sales Workers (Non-retail) $84,130, Signal and Track Switch Repairers $83,600, Gas Plant Operators $83,400, and Transit and Railroad Police earn $82,320.
Many of these roles require specialized training or certifications rather than a college degree. For example, becoming an air traffic controller involves completing several months of training at the FAA Academy. Similarly, skilled trades, law enforcement supervisory positions, and technical operations roles often require targeted apprenticeship programs or professional certifications.
These careers provide a path to financial independence and long-term stability without the time and cost of a four-year degree. With proper training, dedication, and industry-specific certification, individuals can access high-paying, rewarding jobs in sectors ranging from aviation and energy to law enforcement, transportation, and technical trades.
