FG Education Reform 2026: Digital Learning, TVET Expansion and Skills Development for Nigerian Youths

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and future-ready education system that places Nigerian youths at the centre of national development.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Education. The ministry noted that the administration’s education reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda are focused on strengthening funding, promoting skills development, advancing digital learning, expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training, improving teacher capacity, and creating safer, learner-friendly school environments across the country.
According to the statement, the reforms reflect a deliberate shift from conventional top-down education models to participatory systems that empower learners through innovation, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship. With more than half of Nigeria’s population under the age of 30, the government emphasised the urgency of repositioning the education sector to meet the needs of a youthful and rapidly evolving society.
The ministry stressed that the new direction in education policy is designed to equip students with practical skills, digital fluency, and an entrepreneurial mindset required to thrive in a modern economy and contribute meaningfully to national transformation.
The Federal Government also called for stronger collaboration among parents, communities, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and quality education for all.
It added that sustainable progress in the education sector requires collective effort and shared responsibility, noting that partnerships will be critical in driving youth-led education transformation across Nigeria.
The statement concluded by reiterating the government’s resolve to ensure that every Nigerian learner has access to quality education and the opportunities needed to succeed in a technology-driven and skills-oriented global environment.
