Federal Polytechnic Mubi Stopped My Salary After I Lost My Sight – Lecturer
Afemale lecturer, Grace Adamu, has alleged that the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi stopped her salary after she became blind, making it difficult for her to pay for medical treatment.
The victim is currently living with her mother in Numan town, Adamawa State.
She said she could no longer afford to pay house rent in Mubi, let alone pay for second phase of the surgery.
In an interview with Daily Trust in Yola, Grace noted that a four-man committee comprising of three doctors and a secretary set up by the school had, in January, recommended immediate payment of her outstanding 14 months salary as well as sponsorship of her medical treatment.
She noted that after being diagnosed with cataract, she underwent eye surgery at Makka Eye Hospital in Kano in December 2018.
During follow up treatment, she said the hospital reported some complications that required a second surgery.
Grace lamented that while she was battling to raise money for the second operation, the Polytechnic management suddenly stopped her salary since June 2019.
She said doctors had warned that continued delay could lead to permanent disability.
“The school is aware of everything. I informed them at every stage and submitted all my referral letters through my head of department. After the cataract surgery, I collected doctor’s report and on return, I met a query that I did not seek for permission,” she said.
“My condition has been deteriorating. I used to see light but presently I can’t see anything at all. So I call on relevant authorities to intervene in this matter,” she added.
When contacted, the Acting Rector, Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Dr. Abdurrahman Ishiaku refused to respond to the allegation, saying he did not receive any complaint on the matter.
