Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Holds Statutory Congregation Meeting, Reviews FUTI Transition, Security and Campus Development

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, convened its statutory Congregation Meeting, bringing together eligible academic and senior non-teaching staff to deliberate on key institutional matters affecting the present and future of the Polytechnic.
The Congregation, which meets as required, is made up of academic staff and senior non-teaching staff who possess at least a first degree or its equivalent, including Higher National Diploma holders. The meeting recorded a strong turnout, with members of the Polytechnic’s management team in attendance, including Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and Heads of Units.
The meeting was chaired by the Rector, Dr. Mukail Aremu Akinde, FCA, FCTI, ACIS, who in his opening address expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the gift of a new year. He described the institution as blessed and offered prayers for peace, progress, and prosperity for staff and the entire Polytechnic community.
Dr. Akinde commended staff members for their dedication, cooperation, and consistent support for the administration, noting that the achievements recorded by management were the result of collective effort. He specifically acknowledged the various staff unions for their understanding and constructive engagement, which he said had contributed significantly to stability and effective governance within the institution.
The Rector also extended appreciation to junior staff who are not members of the Congregation, as well as outsourced personnel such as gardeners and other support workers. He emphasized that their roles remain vital to the smooth running of the Polytechnic and the attainment of its institutional goals.
Key discussions at the meeting focused on the recent official visitation by the Federal Ministry of Education concerning the proposed transition of the institution to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro. Members were briefed on developments related to the process, alongside updates on security matters and ongoing infrastructural projects across the campus.
Management provided detailed information on various development projects currently underway, highlighting efforts aimed at improving learning facilities, staff offices, and the overall campus environment. Issues relating to the Polytechnic Staff Club were also discussed, with management encouraging staff participation to promote welfare, unity, and social interaction.
Human capital development featured prominently in the deliberations, with emphasis placed on staff training, capacity building, and professional growth as key drivers of institutional advancement and competitiveness.
Security concerns were also addressed extensively during the meeting. The Rector expressed appreciation to His Royal Majesty, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle Ashade Agunloye IV, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land, as well as the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for their timely interventions and continued support in maintaining security within and around the institution.
Members of the Congregation actively engaged with management during an interactive session, offering suggestions and contributions aimed at strengthening safety measures and enhancing overall campus security.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Akinde charged all staff to remain united, committed, and focused on the institution’s vision. He expressed confidence that with faith, diligence, and shared responsibility, the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro would continue to advance in excellence, innovation, and national relevance.
