Delta State Polytechnic Declares Zero Tolerance on Extortion, Harassment and Campus Vices

Otefe-Oghara, Delta State — In a bold move to restore sanity and academic integrity, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara has issued a sweeping ban on extortion and several other unethical practices within the institution.
In an official bulletin dated Monday, 15th June 2026, the management announced far-reaching measures aimed at protecting students and preserving the polytechnic’s reputation as a “proud citadel of learning.”
The directive, which carries stiff sanctions for violators, lists 13 specific prohibited acts that will no longer be tolerated.
Banned Practices Include:
- Selling textbooks above the approved price
- Collecting money from students for books without supplying them
- Demanding unapproved fees for student projects
- Charging students before accepting assignments or manuals
- Collecting money in exchange for examination marks (popularly known as “blocking”)
- Sexual harassment of male or female students
- Allowing students who fail to meet the mandatory 75% class attendance to sit for examinations
- Lecturers engaging non-staff members to teach their courses
- Using non-academic staff as personal assistants (PAs)
- Using students as agents to collect money on behalf of lecturers
- Unauthorized levies by both teaching and non-teaching staff
- Compelling students to write textbook numbers on answer scripts
- Forcing students to purchase specific textbooks
The bulletin emphasized that these vices undermine the core values of the institution and will attract “commensurate sanctions” in line with the polytechnic’s existing rules.
“Please be guided accordingly,” the statement warned.
Signed by the Registrar, Efedi Chukwuemeke, the directive was issued by the Directorate of Protocol and Public Relations, Rector’s Office.
This decisive action is being viewed by many as a strong signal from the institution’s leadership to sanitize the academic environment and prioritize student welfare and genuine learning.
Students and parents have welcomed the development, describing it as a much-needed reform that could set a positive precedent for other tertiary institutions in the region.
