Crime Wave Hits Bauchi Poly: Students, SUG Secretariat Targeted in Series of Robberies

Students of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi (FPTB) returned to campus in January to a disturbing wave of robberies, leaving many shaken and concerned about their safety.
According to reports from GwalamejiNews, at least three major incidents were recorded in January, with unidentified individuals breaking into student lodges and even the Student Union Government (SUG) secretariat.
The first incident happened on January 11 at Steel Lodge in the Gwallamaji community, where thieves carted away valuables, including 20 measures of rice, beans, cooking oil, a gas cylinder, a pressing iron, and other items.
Two weeks later, on January 25, the SUG secretariat was ransacked, with stolen electrical wires and other items leaving the office in disarray.
The most shocking attack came on January 28 at Grandview Lodge. Armed robbers stormed the residence, breaking into 13 to 14 rooms and stealing phones, laptops, foodstuffs, and other valuables. A motorcycle was also taken but later found abandoned outside the compound.
Some students recounted their harrowing experiences to GwalamejiNews.
“I was in my room when the robbers entered. One of them tried to attack me with a machete, but I managed to dodge. As they left, one of them hit my leg with something, and I’m still in pain,” said Goar Yikime John, an ND Mass Communication student.
“They took my phone, power bank, trousers, and food items, stuffing everything into my bag and leaving me with almost nothing,” he added.
Another student, Nwobodo Joseph David, an HND Survey and Geomatics student, described how the robbers seemed organized.
“It was like they knew exactly what they were doing. They moved from room to room, taking whatever they wanted. They took two power banks, two Android phones, and all the shoes in the room. My phone and power bank were also stolen,” he said.
The recent spike in criminal activities has raised serious security concerns among students, with many calling for immediate action to prevent further attacks.
