Federal Polytechnic Bida Cuts School Fees by Over N10,000 Following Student Protests

In a recent victory for students of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, the institution’s management has agreed to significantly reduce school fees, following persistent negotiations led by the Student Union Government (SUG).
After initial resistance, the Polytechnic’s management has decided to cut the proposed fees by N3,500. However, this reduction was seen as insufficient to alleviate the financial burden on students. The SUG, in collaboration with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and other stakeholders, pushed for further concessions.
In a meeting with the Polytechnic’s management, the students were able to secure an additional N1,500 reduction, bringing the total fee reduction to N5,000. While this progress was appreciated, the SUG was not satisfied with the amount and continued to lobby for a more substantial cut.
After more discussions and concerted efforts, a final reduction of N10,000 for returning students and N8,000 for freshers was achieved. The successful negotiations were hailed as a significant win for the student body.
In an official statement, the SUG expressed gratitude for the patience and persistence shown by the students throughout the negotiation process. The union also urged all students to promptly settle their school fees and resume academic activities without delay.
This resolution is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to the students, ensuring a smoother academic journey ahead.
