CPN To Reactivate Professional Programme In FEDPOFFA, Visits Management

In its efforts to reactivate the CPN professional programme in the Federal Polytechnic Offa, the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) has visited the Management for an interactive meeting on Tuesday 22nd of August 2023.

Briefing the Management about CPN, the Head of Education, Mr. Taofeeq Amoo said the CPN is set up to regulate IT practice in Nigeria by registering individuals and corporate bodies to practice IT as professionals and also accrediting computer science programmes in tertiary institutions across the country to ensure quality control.

Mr. Amoo explained that part of CPN programmes is to encourage students of computer science in tertiary institutions to start CPN professional examinations while in school in order to be computer professionals after graduation.

Speaking on reactivation of the programme, he said, “This relationship between the Federal Polytechnic Offa and Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) was in existence before I became the Head of Education in 2019, though, I was informed that the relationship had been in existence since 2013 but  I did not know what transpired that led to the stoppage of the programme. I have decided that since we started the programme with this Polytechnic a long time ago, there is a need to meet the Management to look for ways of reactivating the relationship so that we can come to conduct examinations for students and issue them certificates accordingly.”

Corroborating the Head of Education, Dr. Hassan Kehinde Bello who is a Chief Lecturer in Computer Science Department affirmed that the programme had been in existence since 2013 during the administration of the Late Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo and examinations were successfully conducted for the students. He added that the Federal Polytechnic Offa Centre was among the very few centers available in the country in that period. He therefore pleaded with the Management to resuscitate the programme for the benefit of the students.

In his response, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE appreciated the presence of the CPN Team in the Polytechnic. He noted that the team has come at the right time the Management is about to unbundle the School of Applied Science and Technology which will produce School of Computing. He added that the report of the meeting will be presented at the level of the Academic Board for approval and the final decision will be communicated to the team.

Speaking further, the Rector emphasized that the school will not compulsory the programme for students and the Management will want the programme to be handled solely by the CPN. He, however, advised the CPN to decide the modalities of appointment of their lecturers, issue them appointment letter from CPN, have their separate account for the programme, and decide on the mode of payment, adding that the current administration does not allow a joint account with any affiliate or collaboration programmes for transparency and accountability.

He therefore directed the Computer Science Department to start working on the process of reactivating the progamme and present their report to the Management.

Giving vote of thanks, the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Salimonu Rasheed Ishiaq appreciated the CPN Team for visiting the Polytechnic for the reactivation of the programme and wished them journey mercy back to their various destination.
