Computer Science Student Breaks New Ground as Ekiti Varsity Launches Innovation and Technology Hub

Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere-Ekiti, has taken a major leap into the digital future with the launch of its Innovation and Technology Hub, a centre designed to empower students with cutting-edge tech skills, inspire creativity, and support entrepreneurship.
The initiative, named TechHub BOUESTI, was founded by a 400-level Computer Science student, Michael Olukayode (popularly known as Mikaelson), and officially unveiled with full support from the university management.
During the launch, Olukayode described the hub as a platform for “innovation, collaboration, and transformation,” explaining that it was created to help students dream bigger, build real-world solutions, and prepare for a fast-evolving digital landscape.
TechHub BOUESTI will serve as a training and incubation centre where students can access workshops, tech training, developer communities, and innovation-driven projects. The initiative also aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those promoting quality education, decent work, and industry-relevant innovation.
The unveiling ceremony drew representatives of the Vice Chancellor, faculty leaders, guest speakers, and excited students. Cybersecurity expert Samuel Afolabi delivered a keynote address titled “What I Will Tell My Younger Self in Cybersecurity,” urging students to prioritise digital security as a core skill for the modern workforce.
The launch sparked enthusiasm across the campus, with many describing it as a significant milestone that positions BOUESTI as a rising hub for digital literacy and technological advancement in Ekiti State.
With the establishment of TechHub BOUESTI, the university joins a growing number of Nigerian institutions investing in innovation centres aimed at boosting academic development, empowering students with in-demand skills, and contributing to national growth.
