UNIOSUN VC Urges Students to Leverage NELFUND Loans for Education Support

The management of Osun State University has encouraged eligible students to take full advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, a government-backed initiative designed to provide financial support for learners across the country.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, made the call during the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the university’s main campus in Osogbo. He noted that the loan programme offers students a reliable funding option that can ease the burden of tuition and other academic expenses.
In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the institution confirmed that more than 13,000 students secured admission out of nearly 40,000 candidates who participated in the Post-UTME process. The VC encouraged new students who meet the eligibility requirements to apply for the NELFUND loan, stressing that the facility was created to ensure that no willing learner is denied access to higher education due to financial limitations.
Prof. Adebooye also revealed that the university has over 300 scholarship opportunities available for indigent but academically outstanding students, urging them to explore these funding channels to support their academic goals.
He expressed concern over the rising cost of student accommodation across the university’s campuses, noting that many private landlords have imposed high rental fees that strain students financially. He assured the students that the university is already working on interventions to curb exploitation and provide better housing options in subsequent sessions.
The Vice Chancellor added that the institution recently inaugurated seven major projects, including a new Senate Building, as part of ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure and strengthen academic development ahead of its 15th convocation.
