BOI Begins RAPID Loan Approvals for MSMEs in Nigeria, Sets Disbursement Conditions

The Bank of Industry has officially commenced the approval process for applications submitted under its Rural Area Programme on Investment for Development loan scheme, providing a major financing opportunity for micro, small and medium enterprises operating in rural communities across Nigeria.
In a formal notice issued to applicants, the development finance institution confirmed that approvals are now being processed and released. Applicants are advised to regularly log in to their online dashboards on the BOI RAPID portal, where successful applications will be clearly marked as Approved.
The RAPID loan scheme is part of the Bank of Industry’s broader strategy to expand access to affordable business financing for MSMEs in underserved and rural areas. The initiative targets productive enterprises that contribute to job creation, income growth and sustainable local economic development, particularly in agriculture, agribusiness, manufacturing, trade and services.
According to the bank, applicants whose loan requests have been approved must meet specific post approval requirements before funds can be disbursed. Businesses and individuals accessing loans of up to five million naira are required to provide one guarantor, while those applying for loans above five million naira must present two guarantors. Beneficiaries are also expected to place a lien on the assets being financed and complete a Global Standing Instruction mandate, which enables loan recovery from accounts held across Nigerian banks in the event of repayment default.
The Bank of Industry further clarified that applications can no longer be modified after submission. Applicants are therefore advised to rely solely on the information displayed on their online dashboard for updates on approval status and next steps.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to log in to the BOI RAPID portal to confirm the outcome of their applications and monitor instructions related to documentation, verification and fund disbursement timelines.
The commencement of approvals represents a significant milestone in BOI’s efforts to close the financing gap faced by rural enterprises, many of which struggle to access traditional bank loans due to limited collateral or credit history. The RAPID programme is expected to support cooperatives, artisans, small scale manufacturers and agribusiness operators, thereby strengthening economic activity in rural Nigeria.
As the approval process continues, the Bank of Industry has urged applicants to remain attentive to official updates and ensure they are fully prepared to meet all stipulated requirements to avoid delays in accessing the loan facilities.
