The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Programme is a prestigious Master’s-level award offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the UK. As part of the UK Government’s commitment to international development, this scholarship operates under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP), highlighting the UK’s dedication to fostering educational partnerships and strengthening ties across the Commonwealth.
The programme identifies exceptional individuals from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate outstanding academic potential and leadership capabilities. By supporting their postgraduate studies in the UK, the initiative promotes sustainable development, enhances institutional capacity, and encourages international collaboration.
Purpose of the Scholarship
The primary goal of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Programme is to support the development priorities of Commonwealth countries. It provides full-time Master’s study opportunities to academically talented professionals and scholars who lack the financial resources to study abroad. Graduates are expected to contribute significantly to sectors such as governance, public health, environmental sustainability, education, economic management, and social development.
Who Should Apply
The scholarship targets high-quality postgraduate candidates from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and middle-income nations, including regions affected by conflict or fragility. Applicants must not have studied for a year or more in a high-income country and must demonstrate financial need. Strong leadership potential and a clear commitment to contributing to their home country’s development are essential.
Scholarship Duration
Awards typically cover 12 months of full-time Master’s study, starting in September or October of the academic year.
