BRIEF HISTORY

According to Wikipedia, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro is a polytechnic based in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria. The Institute of chartered accountant of Nigeria recognized Federal polytechnic Ilaro as the only polytechnic that has maintained high standards of tuition and learning at their department of accounting. The Polytechnic was founded on July 25 1979. As at the time of publishing this article, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro was ranked the overall Best Polytechnic in Nigeria and the Polytechnic is still maintaining her position as one the top 10 best Polytechnic in the country. 

THE POLYTECHNIC COMMUNITY

The Polytechnic is hosted in Ilaro community, one of the local government areas in Ogun state. Although the  Polytechnic community is facing insecurity challenges in recent times, the school management said they have taken necessary measures to curtail the issue. The school management also urged the students to avoid keeping late at night and also ensure that they locked their doors so as to put a stop to security challenges in the Polytechnic community. 

The POLYTECHNIC is peaceful and the school hostels are secured, the major areas affected by insecurity are off-campus hostels and lodges. POLYTV understands that generally the country is facing insecurity challenges in which ILARO COMMUNITY is not left out. However, as at the time of publishing this Article, The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro and the Polytechnic community is peaceful and both academic and non academic activities are going on smoothly thus there is nothing to fear. 

Other challenges you may likely face in the Polytechnic community is Power supply, many students of the federal Polytechnic Ilaro have always lamented poor power supply so if you intend to study here, ensure you come along with your power bank because the electricity distribution in Ilaro is extremely poor. 60% of people living in ILARO POLYTECHNIC COMMUNITY are indigenes, businessmen and women while the 40% are students.

There are  (3) banks inside the Polytechnic of Ilaro; UBA Bank, Polaris Bank and one Micro Finance Bank. Other banks in the Polytechnic community are Access bank, Union bank, Wema bank and Polaris bank. It becomes necessary for you to be aware of these commercial banks because it aids financial transactions so if you are an aspirant that wants to gain admission to the Polytechnic, you may have to open a bank account with these banks.

BUSINESS COMMON IN FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO COMMUNITY

The businesses common in the Polytechnic community are P.OS Business, Boutique, Cyber Cafe, Selling of phone accessories and electrical gadgets. Indigenes of Ilaro produce Fufu as their Major occupation and fayawo (those using bikes and cars to carry rice from the border) Perhaps if you are a student and would like to start a business you can try any of these common businesses.

FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO PROGRAMMES

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro runs basically Two (2) programmes; Full-time and Part-time programmes of 32 Courses/Departments.

1.FULL-TIME PROGRAMME: The FULL-TIME Programme is a programme for students admitted on merits, that is, candidates who scored at least 150 in their UTME and also scaled through the screening process. The Polytechnic conducts screening exercises for both ND and HND candidates and those who passed, that Is, scored the required aggregate would be admitted into full-time programme.

The duration for this programme is 2years. The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro is one of the fastest Polytechnic in Nigeria therefore you don’t have to worry about spending years on your diploma programme. Federal Polytechnic Ilaro is a digital Polytechnic, Academic results are released online and only you can see your academic performance. The Polytechnic doesn’t delay results for all her academic programmes. Full-time programme school fees ranges between #60,000 and below depending on courses/departments and student faculty.

2. PART TIME PROGRAMME: The Part-time programme is more or less like a direct entry, that is, with or without Jamb you can gain admission to the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro and all you have to do is visit the Jamb office to regularise your admission.  The Duration for Part time programme is 3semesters of 2 years. This means within 2 years, you would have become an ND graduate.  Part time programme school fees ranges about #93,000 per session for the first year and #65,000 for second year depending on your faculty and department.  Part time programme is only available for ND.

The Polytechnic also Runs Distancing learning programme in the following courses at both ND and HND level; Computer Science, Business Administration and Management, Mass communication, Public Administration and Accountancy.

DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES BETWEEN PART TIME AND FULL-TIME PROGRAMME

There is no much difference between these two programme

  • Both full-time and Part-time Students share the same campuses (East and West)
  • Part time students pay huge amount of School fees while full-time pay less
  • Part time programme Is 2 years of 6 semesters while full-time programme is 2 years of 4semester.
  • Part Time students receive lectures in the afternoon (12pm – 8pm) while Full-time Students Receive lectures in the Morning (8am -6pm).

The under listed dress styles are out-lawed for the students on the Polytechnic campus:

Female students

  • Tight-fitting clothes that reveal the “sensitive part” and outline the contours of the body.

  • Miniskirts and short pants Jeans with obscene and suggestive inscriptions;

  • Dresses, skirts or gowns with slits on any or both sides above the knee; Backless tops:

  • Topless blouses elastic tight fitting trouser pants;

  •  Transparent clothes;

  • Blouses with thin (wicked) straps and sleeveless blouses Body-hug and or mini Gowns,

  •  Jump Suits;

  • Bum Shorts;

  • Spaghetti tops: 

  •  Leggings:

  • Weird hair-dos:

  • Multiple earrings; Nose rings

  • Long eye lashes; Rascal T-Shirts;

  • Unkempt hairstyles that a appear untidy:

  • Cowries in hair styles;

  • Sleeveless shirts; 

  • Short sleeve shirts that expose the armpit of students;

  • Dresses Jeans with inappropriate inscriptions;

  • Low-waist jeans trousers.

  • 3/4 jeans trousers and knickers;

  • Holed/Perforated jeans; Leg or Ankle Chains;

  • Coloured Hair:

  • Sun shades in the rooms or laboratories except for the ones for Class-Work/Fabrication Workshops and wearing of bathroom slippers on the Campus.

  • Face caps:

Male students

  • The dress-code prohibits male students from wearing: Mutilated and or tom Wicked Jeans with inappropriate inscriptions;

  • Face Caps; Earrings;

  • Sleeveless shirts;

  • Short sleeve shirts that expose the armpit of Students; 

  • Dresses/Jeans with inappropriate inscriptions;

  • Low-waist Jeans Trousers;

  • % jeans trousers and knickers; Holed/Perforated Jeans;

  • Sun shades in the Classrooms or Laboratories except the ones meant for studies, laboratories and class work;

  • Coloured hair and punk hairdo;

  •  Hair braiding:

  •  Spangled hair style;

  • Wearing bathroom slippers on campus; Sagging: and

  •  Male Students should not bare their Chest.

CAN I GAIN ADMISSION TO ILARO POLY WITHOUT JAMB?

Yes You can Gain Admission to the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro without jamb but only on part time programme. What you need only is your O’LEVEL result at not more than two sittings. You must obtain Credits in English language, mathematics and any other three (3) relevant subjects at not more than two (2) sittings either in WAEC, NECO, SSCE or GCE.

ACCOMMODATION AT THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO

There are two types of Accommodation at the federal Polytechnic Ilaro; Hostel accommodation and off-campus accommodation. The hostel accommodation is managed by the school authority while the off-campus hostels are accommodation available in Ilaro such as single rooms and self-contained apartments outside the campus.

THE HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION:

There are two types of hostels in the Polytechnic: Male hostel for gentlemen and female hostel for dignified ladies. Moreso, there are rules and regulations guiding the use of the hostel.  The hostels inside the school have different names which are  “Queens Palace, Queens annex, Aluta hostel, Aluta Anex, Kings palace etc.” Students in the school hostel enjoy free light and water supply and also worry less about security because the school management is in charge of that. The cost per bed space is #15,000 per session.

OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION HOSTEL:

These are Accommodation available off-campus. All depends on your choice and taste and how close the accommodation is to the campus.  Some landlords and landladies charge more if the accommodation is close to the campus. A single room costs between 70k, 80k and 90k upwards while a room self-contained ranges from 150k and above all these depend on location and proximity to campus.  There may be some Accommodation in the Polytechnic community that charges below these listed price range however, we encourage you to budget at least 40k for accommodation off-campus and if you can’t afford it, you can split the pay by getting roommate or apply for hostel accommodation in the school which is more cheaper.

Areas, streets or locations where students dominate the most at The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro are Orita, Express, Gbogidi, Deuteronomy, School 2,  Penta, Bola Market, Itawaya Oke Ola, Oke ila, library, Gbogidi e.t.c  you can consider seeking accommodation to these locations and we can assure you that you will definitely enjoy your stay there because these locations are dominated mostly by FPI students.

ILARO POLY CAMPUSES

ILARO POLY has one campus only which is the Main campus, however the campus is spitted   into two (2); The East and West Campus. The West campus consist of the Administrative Building, School of Engineering, School of Environmental among others and as Well as The East Campus consists of other buildings and facilities in which both are inside one Campus; The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun state.

ILARO POLYTECHNIC LECTURERS

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro lecturers are friendly and strict. The Polytechnic lecturers do not sell textbooks or handouts to students directly. No lecturer will force you to buy his/her textbook/handout. What the lecturers do is to give you the handout or course material which you will have to make the photocopy and even if you are to buy a textbook you would have to get it from poly consult. Poly consult is like a bookshop in case you are a fresher. This is another reason why the school remains the best among equals, unlike other schools where students spend thousands of NAIRA on mandatory handouts and textbooks.

SCHOOL BUILDING

There are many buildings in the Polytechnic and some of the buildings that students mostly get use with are the  Admin building, Market, Aud, complex, pavilion, Multi purpose hall, 250 seater auditorium, 500 seater auditorium, health center, Polytechnic library, Poly Bakery  amongst others.

DRESSING CODE

The Federal Ilaro have zero tolerance for indecent dressing.  Some dressings are prohibited in the campus part of which are crazy jeans, Face caps, mini skirts, shabby Hair, tinted hair etc. Any  Student who defaults these dressing codes will be dealt with in accordance to the rules and regulations guiding the institution as contained in students handbook. You want to know all the school dress codes? Don’t worry about that, as soon  you gain admission you will be issued a ‘student handbook’ which contains the Polytechnic Do’s and Don’ts.  Apart from indecent dressing the Polytechnic doesn’t tolerate crime or undisciplined behavior for instance, cultism, examination malpractices and  misconduct. Any student found guilty of these offences risks expulsion.

FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILARO ADMISSIONS

ND ADMISSION: The General cut-off Marks for Admission to the Polytechnic for ND full-time programme is 150, that is, you must score at least 150 in your UTME to be eligible to apply for admission. Admission cut off marks varies by department however the minimum is 150 in UTME as at the last academic session. 

The Polytechnic does not conduct POST UTME Exams for ND candidates, you will only be graded based on your credentials which is the combination of your O’LEVEL and UTME Results.  Click here to see all the admission requirements for the National Diploma (ND) programme.

HND ADMISSION: The Polytechnic conducts entrance examinations for candidates for higher National Diploma (HND) programme. The entrance examination is Computer Based Examination (C.B.E) which is the combination of English Language and mathematics questions. Candidates who passed the CBE test would be offered admission. So if you want to further your HND programme at IALRO POLY prepare well because you are required to pass the school CBE exams before you can be offered admission. The requirements for HND admission include at least Minimum  of 2.50 CGPA, Five (5) credits in relevant subjects including English language and mathematics at O’level and One Year industrial work experience. COURSES OFFERED AT THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IALRO

Federal Polytechnic Ilaro runs about 33 courses/ Departments. FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IALRO SCHOOL FEES

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro school fees are affordable and cheap. Full-time students pay between 60k and below for the first year while part-time pay close to 90k per session and this depends on your faculty and department as explained earlier.  Acceptance fee for ND full time is #33,700 and ND part time is #23,700 while HND programme #23,700.

  1. Can I gain Hnd admission into Ilaro if I don’t have original ND result. Because I was told by someone that I must get my ND original result

    U mentioned that if u get 2.49cgpa , u will have to do 2 years industrial training,,,,
    It is not so because 2.49 is pass, so they don’t accept pass,they only accept lower credit even if you like u do 5 yrs industrial training, u won’t b given admission,,,,they set their admission portal to the extent that if u input pass in D grade space provided, the form will not be submitted,,,there is no how u can do it ,it won’t submit,,,and if u think you are wise and u want to put lower credit,they will ask you to upload ur nd result,,,once they found out that u have pass in ur ND result and u input lower credit,they won’t give you admission.
    So, if u know u have pass in ur ND result,pls don’t bother to choose federal polytechnic ilaro, bcos they will just use your form money to plant flowers
