ASUP Suspend Strike Action in BENPOLY

The Academic Staff union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Benue state Polytechnic Ugbokolo chapter, has suspended their prolonged strike after reaching a resolution with the state government.
Academic staff at Benue state Polytechnic and other government owned tertiary institutions in Benue state have been on strike since January 2022 over non payment of their arrears salary by the government.
The strike action was suspended today after a resolution meeting, During the Resolution meeting, both the CAN and Government delegations assured that, as soon as they receive the lecturers resolution to suspend the strike, three months of salary arrears accumulated in 2022 (February, March and April) would be paid.
The state government promised further that negotiations with a view to resolving the grievances that drove the union to embark on strike would also commence immediately.
The school management has however announced the resumption of Academic activities as contained in a circular dated 24th May 2022.

The Circular Reads,
“Following the suspension of strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Tertiary Institutions in Benue State (ASUPTIBS), I have been directed by the Benue State Polytechnic Management to write and inform all staff, Students and the General Public that, the School will resume on the 25 May, 2022.
“Consequent upon the above, all students are to resume as lectures will commence immediately.”

The school management of Benue state Polytechnic Ugbokolo on Tuesday confirmed the suspension of the strike and also directed students to resume with immediate effect.
However, the two weeks warning strike by ASUP national body continues til Monday 30th May 2022. Other Polytechnics are expected to Resume on Tuesday 31st May 2022 if the two weeks strike action is not extended further.
