Yabatech honours ex-RECTEM rector
Staff members of the School of Arts, Yaba College of Technology, have hailed the immediate past Rector of the Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management, Dr. Stella Mofunanya, for her strides at RECTEM.
At the “homecoming” ceremony held in Lagos, Mofunanya was hailed as the first female alumnus of Yabatech to become Rector elsewhere and return to the institution in good standing.
Speaking at the event, Yabatech’s Dean of Arts, Design and Printing, Dr. Chinyere Ndubuisi, highlighted Mofunanya’s impact wherever she serves, and she deserves to be celebrated always.
Speakers at the event noted that during Mofunanya’s tenure at RECTEM, she oversaw its growth from 52 students to hundreds, secured multiple accreditations for National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and part-time programmes, and established Nigeria’s first wellness centre in a higher institution, drawing on her expertise as a certified naturopathic doctor.
She was also lauded for representing Nigeria in continental associations of Vice-Chancellors and Rectors, and becoming the first private institution Rector to serve on the board of the Association of Rectors in Nigeria.
They largely described her as a leader who uplifted others, encouraged younger staff, promoted marriage among colleagues, and fostered a family-like bond.
The celebrant, Mofunanya, expressed gladness at her return to Yabatech, adding that she hoped for the best moving forward.
She said, “I believe the future is in God’s hands. Although private institutions have approached me for new roles, I am prioritising rest and reflection.
“I have no regrets. I went in with a mission and returned with joy. Whatever lies ahead, I know I’m back home where I started.”
